Himeros26 1,688
"C2C did this to her" Singing a different style of music doesn't affect your voice, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol does.
Babel 41,429
She could barely hold a note during The Fame, most of the time it sounded forced and airy. She has definitely changed for the better. Her technique has improved a lot, her tone is more resonant now than ever. This is thousand times better than this I love 2016VocalsGa more than any other VocalGa, but I guess it's a matter of taste.

Exactly, cheeck to cheek mproved her technique massively, compare her shows at the start of the tour to the end , then she started chilling with marc to make the new record and now her speaking voice seems to be fryed and half an octave lower, hmmm. PassTheTime 1,448
every time you smoke you vocal chords gets inflammation and with time that tissue responds and from a soft tissue it hardens and makes you voice weak and raspy that process in witch a specialize tissue transforms itself into another is called "metaplasia" the good thing is that the process is reversible and if you quit smoking in some months you vocal chords gets better but it is very important that you don't force you VC, like singing PI and you smoke, because it sufferers micro-ruptures and those when they heal left scars that change your voice
mee 381
She sounds better than ever. Her colour in her voice remembers me of these The Fame days, but now she also can hit all the high notes again and she can sing clearer. She has the whole package now. What she can do is too add the sweetness to her deep voice like on the videos below. Gagas voice is on top now, very proud of her. But i love that she sounds now similiar to 2009 live performances, there were the best
HOTNebraskaGuy 19,547
Actually I think her voice now reminds me a lot of her voice in 2012, before recording C2C. It's that "I have a sweet voice but I smoke sometimes" sort of thing. I like it though. Also, most of it has to do with aging too. Your voice won't sound the exact same as it did 5 years ago, especially when you're young. One, five, ten lay a million on me

The good thing is that her voice sounds unique again. Like for example on Million Reasons, you can't hear a similiar voice on radio and that reminds me of these Fame days, she sounded to this time also very unique at her live performances and many people felt in love with that > VMA 2009 voice timbre But yeah, i agree. She should take care of her voice and her health.

There is a real tradeoff. For her it's even more relevant since her voice has already been damaged.

mee 381
The best is, when she can sing all the nuances between this warm deep husky voice - like at Rose theatre ( unfortunately can't find the Firefly performance @Rose ), but here is Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered. That's a similiar way she also sings on Million Reasons - and the clear high voice colour like on Sound Of Music. That makes her a real musical chameleon and that's what makes her unique. This year on Super Bowl she showed like her whole, okay not whole, but very a wide pallet of her voice in an brilliant way. Her voice were on fire and in an very good state, it was not damaged at all. I think she sounds great at the moment and she could pull of the brilliance of the Super Bowl performance again...of course when she gives her voice time to breath and cares for her health. She smokes (cannabis too which means without a filter), drinks, and did cocaine, she had done damage. At the national anthem, she only went up to a F#5 sharp in head voice, when she used to be able to belt G#5 so she if she showed all her voice her voice cant be as good as it used to be, she is great but it's damaged. It's like a good pianist playing a bad piano. And of course compared to the rest of the crop of singers she is in another leauge, BUT, thtat doesnt mean she should stop taking care of her voice. I know it isn't from your post but on the one you quoted she said "Hail Mary" in the interview... what does that mean? I didn't really get the definition online.
