I mean, obviously this is a community rich with queer people, and so a certain skepticism of most organized religions is understandable, but it's not like it's news. Her Catholicism (both the way it informs and stands at contrast with her worldview) has hung heavily over most of her work. BTW is kind of amazing because it's basically her attempt to reconfigure the idea of "worship." Throughout her first three album cycles, perhaps the most recurrent motif was that of the bath--of baptism and rebirth. She has never been antagonistic to the idea of religion and, indeed, it has suffused a lot of her work. She's just often expressed a position that is antagonistic to the way it is contemporarily practiced. A healthy exercise, I think. You're never going to abolish religion entirely.
