Yes (?)

I'm not a huge fan of her personality (she actually reminds me of a "friend" who plays innocent but is really just a manipulative bitch), but her music is great (not all but quite a good amount of it). She definitely deserves the awards she's received (albeit 2016's AOTY grammy...meh).

Just listen to Speak Now, the album produced and written by only her and Nathan Chapman. She's a creative powerhouse lyrically and musically speaking. I honestly place her on-par with Gaga if not higher in terms of cohesiveness in songwriting. Sure, songs like We Are Never Getting Back Together, 22, Trouble and all her "generic pop" records aren't the best examples. Songs like Back To December, Safe and Sound and all the way to Clean from 1989 really show how talented she is, whether you like it or not.

Taylor Swift is an example of why I hate people who compare artists vocally, it's just unfair. It's about how a singer uses their voice rather than how they sound. It's about the stories they tell, the emotions they evoke in their music. I literally only started listening to Taylor after Red, which isn't my favorite album of her's by any means (hated the country pop direction), but really exposed me to her other albums which I subsequently fell in love with.

P.S: I hate comparing artists with one another but I had to draw the comparison between Taylor and Gaga.

P.S.S:  More Taylor Swift song's I personally like out of the top of my head (better songs exist):

- Haunted

- White Horse

- Change

- Enchanted (ughhh the story behind this song is practically a Disney movie. Beautiful song)

- State of Grace

- Begin Again

- Everything Has Changed feat. Ed Sheeran

Respect your opinion and agree that TS is a pretty talented songwriter.

I like some of her songs as well.

my point about vocal wasn't a comparison with Gaga. In fact I doubted her vocal abilities because of how much effects she uses. I know people do that I.e. Ellie Goulding, The Weeknd etc. But it's just my taste, I feel like in live performances, singers should be able to deliver the same emotion as in CD without all the productions. I am not a Stan so correct me if I'm wrong, I have never heard TS singing 1989 songs without those EQ, Exciter, Reverb, Compressor etc. where she can still deliver the original experience we get from CD.

I personally hate comparing artists too. I was only comparing her own CD and live actually.

no doubt she is talented in songwriting, but her recent decisions in musical direction/ choice of producer/marketing stragegies/ scandals/ fake behaviours over shadowed her talent imho. She is more about the bling now if I had to quote Gaga.

Sorry if I'm wrong I only started listening to some TS after RED.

I get it. Pop is supposed to be commercial-ish. But her approach is too "try hard".

she is like let's add some dub step to a guitar track, then she made Red. Then she was like let's find the hottest producer, then she made 1989.

i feel like (especially 1989) is overproduced in the vocals. Let's unplug all the effects, she can't even recreate that vocal tone in live performances.

Gaga is repetive lyrically but her chord progression isn't.

lets pick a random song off 1989, her whole chorus might actually be made out of repeating the few notes. She is like a loop machine if you take away the lyrics and just hum through the songs.

just my opinion, not a TS stan so I don't know all her music but the well known ones are basically like that.

its not complete hate. I like Haunted from Speak Now, I like Welcome to New York from 1989. But as a whole package, TS is more like a product than an artist.

I disagree with almost everything you said but whatever.

Gaga Medicine

Guys, as far as I love the new album, the hype is already killed by PI tbh. If Gaga really are not giving a **** to the charts she should have released Joanne as the first single. It's a beautiful song and it's more close to the general sound of the album in my opinion. I like PI as the first single tho, but I feel like it was meant to do good on the radio despite what Gaga said.

About Taylor Swift, I was not here for her till 1989. I think it is a great pop album, better than anything Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus has done. I'm not a fan. but her next albums will deserve a listen for me.

I agree with almost everything you said. I even think Taylor Swift may be better than Gaga in songwriting. The thing is that she knows how to PLAY THE GAME of the indutry. She has killer commercial songs like Blank Space (and they are not bad) and better and more mature songs like Clean in the same album without losing cohesiveness.

I mean, some commercial songs to keep you relevant won't destroy or artistic integrity imo.

If anything this may help Gaga because in the publicity Taylor will get there's a high likelihood they will mention Gaga as well because of the "genre swap"

I don't like TS (and somehow hate her), while my best friend is a swiftie. Just imagine when Joanne flopped (hope not tho) and TS6 did great on charts, she will start comparing TS to Gaga -_-

I freaking love Blank Space and all of 1989 (loved the production of that album). By generic pop songs I meant more along the lines of Trouble. It's a fun song my friends and I used to sing along to ALL the time, so I associate a lot of good memories to it. But it's not anything special musically (if that's the word) speaking.

And 100% agree with you in bold. (Gaga's Christmas Tree anyone? :creepflop:)
