Sizzily 14,543
Bowie, her and Taylor's break up, maybe some family drama? Maybe she wants to make amends with her family because of something? We really can't know, she's kept the process of making Joanne under wraps. Maybe this is what she planned to do the whole time. Early 2016 was kind of just one-off things and we assumed LG5 would look like it. Tears in the rain
Koreku 2,387
She backtracked and realized that tracing back to her pre-fame roots was essential for her future as an artist. She had to be able to come to terms with herself as Stefani Joanne Germanotta before releasing a pure Gaga album. You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you. memomemome 1,478
What I read somewhere she kinda described lg5 as ode to her old self. It's billboard I forgot in 2014-2015 ish. She maybe initially think it's redone (early 2015) hinting she may go back to her roots. Then 2016 happened with all these things happening (bowie death, breakup, maybe family? idk ) I heard a interview with Mark Ronson that she was crying at first Session? That may hint something happening in her life. Maybe some of previous work remind her of Taylor that she won't release it because of the emotional connection
Koreku 2,387
Really though, imagine if she released the original concept of LG5 with the TFM-esque RedOne songs that everyone expected from her-- she would have probably spiraled back into the depression that ate at her back in 2013, when she felt less like the 'creator' and more like the 'performer'. Gaga's acknowledged in a past interview that the GP seeks perfection from her (less songs like dope and more songs like bad romance), but she realizes that now is not the time in her life to portray herself as said perfection. It wouldn't be healthy for her to dive into an avant grade era without piecing herself together again as the inspired song-writer and creator. Her previous manager had plotted an entire album campaign for ARTPOP for her to be lunged into after she had just broken a hip. It practically shattered her and made her sick. She underwent a healing process with Cheek to Cheek and her acting roles, and I think LG5 is the final piece to the recollection of herself. I like to think of it as a revival in the making. I can't wait to see what the 'Joanne' album means for LG6 and the entire future of her discography. I truly feel that Joanne is the debut of her career again in the same way that Red and Blue was a debut. This is just my interpretation of it all. You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.
REALITY 76,361
I mean, it's difficult to say. I do think that Bowie's death had a significant impact on her, but I don't know if that'd be enough to completely switch gears. I mean, Bowie to her is like how she is to us. Imagine that you're a musician and your biggest inspiration and icon passes away, that must have hit her hard. Other than that, I think she just wanted to do something different, something unique, hell, she's Gaga after all. She's never fit into a box and she never will. Maybe doing this record was a way of stepping out of that box yet again, we already see that people are torn about the sound of the album, in my mind, that's Gaga doing her best job at staying true to who she is. She could have just also wanted to show a "more real" side to us. Especially during the beginning of her career, she's been this sort of mysterious girl. Unless you were a fan, to the average person, she was just a "crazy" gal wearing crazy outfits and singing pop songs. Joanne is a way to break down that barrier so people can know her on a more human level. Also, though, I don't think we can necessarily say that she completely changed the album. We have no idea what DJWS' and RedOne's songs were about, we have no idea what they sounded like, maybe she was making Joanne with both of them, but decided that working with Ronson was just the better way to go. Maybe she just wasn't feeling it with those two for whatever reason she saw fit. Regardless, I'm glad she made this album with Ronson. The snippets were amazing and I can't wait to hear this album! 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎
Decodekid 28,229
ITS OBVIOUS she scrapped the "original concept" of LG5, i mean she could literally release those 8 redone songs plus 4 others from those she made from 2014 - 2016 and make an album. I mean what else she would've performed if the bowie tribute didn't happened. for me personally, JOANNE doesn't feel like an album concept that you work on for 3 years, i somehow think she thought of that this year. RIP to the original LG5 STILL EXCITED FOR JOANNE though Long Live Gretchen
