Joanne (honest) review

First of all I'd like to say that english is not my first language. Secondly, this is just my opinion on the snippets, and not on the whole album, which means it could change. Finally, I wanted to say that I don't feel bad for hearing the snippets, neither I think it has spoiled my experience; when the album comes out I will still be surprised, as it happened with ARTPOP and the snippets that came before its release.

1. Diamond Heart ★★★★★

In comparison with other album's first tracks, I think Diamond Heart is as strong as Marry The Night. It has a very fresh vibe and it's emotional, not only because of the theme, but also the fearless vocal makes me think "Gaga is back!".

2. A-yo ★★★

This song is delicious. It sounds really right and makes me feel good. I call it a mixture of MANiCURE and Shake if Off. But, it is also one of my least favorites, because it doesn't really have a soul. I prefer songs with meaning.

3. Joanne ★★★★★

I don't really know what to think, because the snippet keeps repeating "Where do you think you're going?" in a sad voice. But it seems like a very deep song. 30 seconds are not enough. I think when it drops, it's going to be one of my favorites.

4. John Wayne ★★★★

I think I read somewhere that this song sounds like You and I. WTF? It does not. It sounds new and different, and it is dancy. I did not like it the first time, but I like it more now. Every listen makes the song grow on you. "Baby let's get high" and the name of the song (a person) reminds me of Mary Jane Holland.

5. Dancin' in Circles ★★★

It sounds very pop and radio friendly. The beat reminds me of Sorry (Bieber). Although it sounds like a hit, I don't really like it. As I said, I prefer songs that are deep, and this one sounds kind of shallow to me. Even though I understand Beck's current music, I was expecting more.

8. Sinner's Prayer ★★★★★

My favorite so far. The studio version has a beat that fits the song well and makes my heart rush. The vocal is stunning and haunting. It has a dark vibe, I don't know why, and it's giving me some BTW and TFM vibes, even though it's totally new. The melody has a magical energy.

9. Come to Mama ★★★★★

It is a retro song and that makes it really fun. Sounds like a rock/soul classic from the 50s/60s. You can feel Ronson's style here, very vintage and daddy vibes. In my opinion, this song will be a gem in Gaga's career.

10. Hey Girl ★★★★

The snippet does not show the chorus, so I don't really know what this song is about. It does not sound like something that would result out of Gaga + Florence. But it is sexy.

11. Angel Down ★★★★★

It sounds like a classic and it is as melancholic as Princess Die. Dope vocals, but better, prettier. But still kinda raw and very sad. Like with Joanne, we will need to hear to entire song to get it, and I am sure it will deliver.

12. Grigio Girls ★★★★

Sounds like something Taylor Swift would do. A "hipster" theme with fun melody. Kinda weird to me, BUT it is good and I think it has potential to be a hit.

13. Just Another Day ★★★★★

Like Come to Mama, it sounds very retro and interesting. It reminds me of The Beatles, and thank God she finally worked that side of hers. It also sounds like something Elton John would do. I'm excited to hear the entire song with my entire family as my father's son and my mother's son and my sisters' brother.

Album genre: Good quality pop.

Is it her best album? Maybe. It has a huge potential, because a few songs sound like classics, while others sound radio friendly.

Are you implying the other reviews aren't honest? :laughga:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I loved her performance of sinners prayer!!! Sounds like a 60's song, very the Beatles who I adore so much. A-Yo sounded great too!!! Reminded me of maroon 5 type music. I'm sooooo excited too. I like your review :)

I was expecting a bad review since most of Gagadaily's "honest" threads are bad

Nice review; and interesting, especially because I haven't listened to the snippets yet. Your English is excellent (better than most of the users here, in fact).

Oh my god John Wayne slay me. I so in love with Just Another Day. UGH. Joanne be the standout album of your discography queen! (Which is saying a lot because her discography is untouchable)

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

This is so hilarious. Like, wow, people actually believe that this album isn't Gaga's best. Thanks for the laugh :laughga:

From that list I only praise Bad Romance. Telephone and Poker Face are good. Just Dance has always been a meh to me.

REALITY

Diamond Heart, A-Yo, John Wayne, Dancin' in Circles, Come to Mama, Angel Down, and Just Another Day are the songs that really, really got my attention—that's not to say others didn't. They're all incredible in their own way.

I literally got chills when listening to these songs. They are amazing! They truly are! I love that the album's very eclectic in terms of sound, but they're all coherent. It's amazing, it truly is.

I'm so excited to hear this album!

*Side note, Come to Mama and Just Another Day reminded me of The Beatles, which is awesome because I love them so much!
