Is Gaga implying that this is album is an experimental project and she is Joanne in the same way that Garth Brooks was Chris Gaines or David Bowie was Ziggy Stardust? Is this an era that is a departure from as well as an ego that is separate from "Lady Gaga" that we know and love? :awkney:

She's done it before for tracks (Jo Calderone, Yüyi) in the past, but has Lady Gaga acquired an entire new facet for the next 2-3 years?

I think she's "living the life" that Joanne never had. Gaga is bringing a Joanne-esqe energy with this new album.

Joanne has always lived inside of Gaga so basically Joanne is part of who Gaga is and she said this in multiple interviews, so no definitely NOT an alter ego

No. Please no. I don't want that.

That would just look corny tbh she should just be her indie self

Omg I hope not, that would be CRINGE.

It's already cringeworthy that she's going around saying "Call me Joanne." Sis, you are not the reincarnation of your dead aunt. Stop.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I think you're right. What a lovely way to honor your deceased loved one. :flutter:

In many ways, this is the opposite of a character or persona. She's looking inside herself instead of projecting a character outwards.

This is in many ways steps back towards "Stefani" and not necessarily steps "towards Gaga".

It's the spirit that moves her though. I mean, for her to make an album and era based upon someone who you didn't even personally know, that takes some sort of spiritual connection.

It's also not like she believes she's Joanne. She just has this connection with her that no one will ever understand, except for her and maybe her family.

Her aunt is called Joanne, her parent's restuarant is called Joanne's, her middle name is Joanne, her new album is called Joanne, aand now she wants us to call her Joanne.

Joanne's impact.:diane:

I don't think she'll care to take it that far but I do love "Joanne" as the unplugged, back to basics detour in the huge pantheon of Gaga eras. I see us referencing Joanne down the road whenever she pops up in cut-offs or casual wear.

Yeah, I just have a hard time understanding the whole thing at the moment. I'm hoping the album clears it up. I just can't understand why she and her family laud Joanne as some Christ-like figure. Like, it's sad that she died young, but I don't get why Gaga is so emotionally attached to someone she never met.

From my perspective, I think this album is Gaga's desperate plea for approval from her dad. She already admitted she has daddy issues (God knows why - they seem extremely close), so it would make sense that Joanne is her way of finding an emotional connection to her father. In that respect, I love the idea of the album, but I just wish Gaga would stop with these overblown statements about a dead relative. It's just weird and unrelatable.

I can definitely see where you're coming from. From an outsider's perspective it certainly seems out-there and far-fetched, but we're not in Gaga's family, so we'll never truly know the impact that Joanne had on them.

I would say that this album is definitely made to connect with people on a more "human level", she's even expressed that before. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's a "desperate plea for approval from her dad", but her father certainly was a huge influence on her for this album. I think because she's had "daddy issues" in the past, that this is a way to rekindle that relationship.

I actually think as we hear more of the album though, that this album will be more and more relatable.

When has she ever said she has daddy issues? All she is ever said is how she is a daddy's girl and all that.

This is where I was coming from in the Carson Daly radio interview thread.

It just seemed like....girl, you didn't know her...you have nothing but pictures and stories to go off of and you're acting like she was physically present in your life and left a tangible void after her death.

My dad's sister (i.e. my aunt) died at age 13 and they named my cousin after her, but none of us (the grandchildren) KNEW her. My grandparents, my dad and aunts and uncle talked about her and that's pretty much all I have of her, but I, personally, have no connection or memory of her. I could see if this was her dad making an album. It was sad my aunt died at a young age, but I'm not writing an album named "PATRICIA"

I'm not in Gaga's head, so I'm not really digging much deeper than what I've already typed, but this just seemed like another one of those way above people's heads sentiments she rambled about during TFM and BTW.
