Has anyone seen Holding the Man (2015)?

Last night, I requested to watch a "light" film, so my boyfriend chose Holding the Man, a 2015 Australian gay drama based on a true story and memoir. I do not think I've ever cried so hard watching a film, so clearly, I did not have the light film I wished. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and it's left a hold on me. Has anyone else seen it?

I thought the pacing, script, and acting were all wonderful. You follow these characters for so many years, you grow such a connection to them. You root for their love and feel their pain. Probably the last thirty minutes my eyes were swollen from tears and I could not hold them back. I really loved the film, despite it being so sad (and the fact that I try to steer away from depressing gay films, as they always seem to have sad endings). This one was really good and I highly recommend it.

If anyone else has seen, let's discuss!

Yes! Watched it on Netflix last month. I have to say, great story and great acting

Do you hear that? It's poison.

No.

But a little off topic, why do gay films always have to be so sad :air: I hate that. I know it's supposed to show the struggles and unfortunate reality of stuff, but still. I want a cutsie happy one too

Okay I'm done now. :queenga:

I agree. I actually refuse to watch sad gay films, cause someone always gets killed, hate crimed, dies of some disease, or some other ****. But, as this one was a true story and a good one at that, I allow it to not have a perfect ending.

It really read as a love story, regardless of orientation. I believe it was advertised as "a love story for anyone", which it was.

I love love love this film! I was crying so hard even after 30 minutes when the film ended. Both actors were so great! I really loved the performance of Ryan Corr especially.

I'm not crying but almost 24 hours later I'm still heavily affected. I can't get the story and men out of my mind! Such a beautiful, yet tragic, story.
