YeehawKylie 7,817 Posted October 3, 2016 Share Posted October 3, 2016 Last night, I requested to watch a "light" film, so my boyfriend chose Holding the Man, a 2015 Australian gay drama based on a true story and memoir. I do not think I've ever cried so hard watching a film, so clearly, I did not have the light film I wished. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and it's left a hold on me. Has anyone else seen it? I thought the pacing, script, and acting were all wonderful. You follow these characters for so many years, you grow such a connection to them. You root for their love and feel their pain. Probably the last thirty minutes my eyes were swollen from tears and I could not hold them back. I really loved the film, despite it being so sad (and the fact that I try to steer away from depressing gay films, as they always seem to have sad endings). I actually refuse to watch sad gay films, cause someone always gets killed, hate crimed, dies of some disease, or some other ****. But, as this one was a true story and a good one at that, I allow it to not have a perfect ending. It really read as a love story, regardless of orientation.
