I think I figured out why monsters find the Perfect Illusion/ Joanne era so hard to process.

I think Gaga has given us so much cryptic conceptual stuff. All her eras up until ARTPOP were filled with concepts and hidden meanings and some lesson that we should learn, be it about Fame, love, art, sex, money etc..

Now, she's decided to deviate from that and just serve up some music and stop with being all cryptic, we find it hard to digest.

I don't blame some of us tbh, change is hard.

Gaga moved from this:

to this:

No wonder we're pressed. BUT, we need to accept this, and just enjoy the music.

Ruth tho slaying those 2 eras and 2 concepts

It's just that they want glitter and glam from Gaga and she hates that

Exactly. She'll always have a little bit of "quirk" to her that's just who she is. She's still the same person even though she's in different "packaging" now. It saddens me that there are some people who just love the "packaging" and not the person that she is. I love her just as much now as I did 8 years ago. I love her whether she wears hair bows and latex or crop tops and shorts. She's still the girl with the most adorable laugh on planet earth. She's still the girl with the adorable "rabbit teeth" that I pray she never fixes. She's still the girl who taught me so much about life, love, and forgiveness. She's still the girl who took us in and loved us as if we were her own flesh and blood.

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

Yeah, tbh I became a fan of Gaga because of so much more than the music. I loved her artistic spirit, her creativity, her avant garde performances and outfits, her outlandish behaviour, her intense love for her fans, her relentless work ethic, her visually groundbreaking videos, her IDGAF attitude to making controversial statements, her mystery and intrigue and innovation...

Now, as much as she tries to deny it, we have a stripped-back Gaga who has removed all those things and is just left with the music. Which is fine. If that's what she wants for her career now, then her fans just have to put up with it. But the reason I always stanned for her above everybody else is because of all the 'extra' things she had to offer - not just the music. And I'll be honest, now that those things have been taken away, I don't feel as connected to her or as interested in her anymore, which is hard to deal with. Yes, she can sing very well and is a great performer, but so are a lot of people....

I really hope that one day she returns to what made her so great in the first place. To me, the saddest thing is, I think this stripped-back aesthetic is a direct response to the ARTPOP criticism. I think she took that criticism to heart and is now trying to bury her artistic spirit as a defense mechanism. Or maybe she got so bored with the criticism that she simply lost interest in performance art and everything avant garde. It's hard to know for sure. Either way, it's already boring me and I pray that this isn't a forecast for the rest of her career. :awkney:

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

The irony is that Gaga refers to Joanne since the first video posted here. She refers to her both as her dead auntie and her spiritual inspiration by signing the Manifesto with the date 1974 (date of her death).

Oh the irony. She still does what she's being doing, but there are people who want their "fave" to be constantly talked about.

Cher wasn't talked about every month in her career.

Barbaba Streisand, didn't, also.

Nor many true artists of their time, who (unfortunately) had their work recognized years later (eg. BTW)

I'm one of those "she can do no wrong" monsters so what I'm about to say isn't negative/critical lol

I do miss her 'darker' side To be clear, though, PI seems to be open to perception in a dark-context as well as a lighter one.  She's really good at playing with the binaries.

I just really dug how she and Ruth made the interludes from the Monster Ball and the ArtRave:

There is a very blatant darkness or eeriness to them as they symbolize many elements of her storytelling and life in general.  The juxtaposition of light/dark, say from the ArtRave especially, is so interesting!  When I've seen her live, I have been scared at times lol but also immensely intrigued and related to the darkness that is inherently present alongside (or within) our lighter parts of life (or, say, pop music).  She kinda pulled it outta me with her shows.  I dunno what I'm trying to say! :wtfga:

She said it better when releasing BTW, "...Born This Way is about what keeps us up at night and what makes us afraid."  [That is what I'm trying to capture with this post].

Really appreciate her twisted imagery with poppy tunes...that, I think, best represents Hollywood/entertainment/capitalism/love/family/etc.  But, again, I'm happy for whatever way things go.  Gaga fan for life! :diane:

Bitch that has me crying.   Her love for her fans is something I can never comprehend tbh.

The problem is that it's just not a good song. These theories of why, what, where and when are getting tired. The music speaks for yourself. Either it resonates with people and they like it or they don't

"When you're lonely, I'll be lonely too. . ."

When I first heard this line at the MBall I lost my sh*t. It was something about her voice. Something about the atmosphere. I'll never forget that night.

I love both Gaga's tbh. I don't care. She's the only artist of our time that can deliver visuals, conceptual work/imagery etc and also strip down and deliver the future masterpiece of Joanne. Ready for it.

Wow wow wow!!! Not sure how people missed this but so true!

She was hinting at this future release even in the past. This is a cool finding!

I have a feeling that "quirky" gaga will come back. She still does love us intensly. She's always so excited to see us and is always quick to run and give us hugs and say I love you. She's still the same woman who took us in, loved and nurtured us as if we were her own flesh and blood

My problem is only that I don't think it's a great song. That's all.

Yea tbh it's as simple as that

I don't care if she stays at home planting her garden, I don't care if the video is simple or if there is no live performances. The truth is 95% of her discography>>>> Perfect Illusion, heck a ballad like Speechless is 10 times more exciting than PI.
