Theodore 321
So there's this really cool podcast that I've gotten into lately called 'Switched On Pop' which basically breaks down pop songs to find what makes them work... It's simple music theory taught in a way that's fun and funny and totally understandable. Anyway, yesterday they put out a new episode which is entirely dedicated to, you guessed it, Lady Gaga, and I think it's their longest episode to date (ha impact ). As well as diving deep into the music theory behind Perfect Illusion, they talk a lot about Gaga's musical style as a whole... even digging up tracks like Bloody Mary and Government Hooker and discussing the balance of the 'Fame' and 'Monster' elements in her art that makes her so unique. If you've got the time to listen to it, even in the background while you're washing the dishes or something, I guarantee that you'll enjoy it. http://www.switchedonpop.com/45-lady-gaga-is-a-perfect-illusion/

giskardsb 12,565
This podcast should be required listening for Gaga fans, it's really well done and a great analysis of the ambiguous harmonic and melodic lines that move between major and minor tonality, as well as why the key change is so climactic and a bit jarring here. this song is anything but basic in its harmony and shows real musical intelligence. I think so many have trouble with PI because it basically never resolves, there is always musical tension. That's why some feel that it never "gets anywhere".
