StrawberryBlond 14,822 Posted September 23, 2016 Share Posted September 23, 2016 I've been very vocal about how this era was going to be very different for Gaga, as regards her YouTube presence. Gaga's last era was 3 years ago, when views and likes aren't what they are today. Back then, getting a video to 1 billion views was an amazingly thing, now, so many videos have passed that mark and a lot of them have been after the AP era. Likes have also gone through the roof - now a video can get a million likes in less than a month in some cases. So, with all this in mind, I knew Gaga's lead single was going to produce a very different performance. But...I'm genuinely puzzled as to why it's not doing better. The views are fine, all things considered, but what's up with the likes. As of this writing, PI has 384,000 likes. And it has 33,000 dislikes too. Yesterday, I turned on this video expecting it to have hit 400k, so was disappointed. I turned it on today definitely expecting it to have hit 400k for sure. To see how it still hasn't happened by this point is very concerning. And the amount of dislikes its had in comparison to such low likes is even more concerning, especially considering that there's really nothing to outright dislike about the video. Yes, I know the song didn't debut amazingly, I know a lot of the public still don't know about it, I know it could be a slow burner. But...the video was apparently the #2 most popular video on YouTube and Applause didn't do this badly initially and it had the same problems. There's nothing to say that it won't grow, but I just didn't expect it to struggle this much, especially in the current Vevo age. She's got over 7.2 million subscribers too - artists with similar numbers didn't have views and likes this low for their lead single. It's not like you need promo anymore to get high YouTube views and plenty of much more boring videos have no problem getting views, so what gives? The important thing is the proportion of likes/dislikes and the proportion is good. More than 90% approve PI video, just like her other videos. You may say "but Applause has 1.7 million likes" yes but it has more dislikes too (241k). She is fine. What is happening is that her music nowadays doesn't appeal to the young masses anymore.
