I kinda disagree. Artist love to be awarded, in the context i understood correctly of your term "slayage". Grammy is the pinnacle. She would have released PI/Joanne months earlier/later if not for the qualification for Grammy, and avoided fighting with Lemonade and 22. There's marketing and strategy as I see for the releasing of PI and Joanne.

And IF she did have more artist integrity, songs that she hyped since early 2015, that fans waited for so long, she would have just released for us fans to enjoy while finishing for Joanne. No timing and strategy needed if she does it for pure art.

The slayage in the context I was using was pertaining to both critical and commercial success. The quality of the music comes first this era so if it is delivered, critical acclaim is a given. Commercial success, not necessarily. I can't say for certain that she isn't aiming for award shows but you couldn't prove your assumption either. Lol, and your last point is just bogus. Releasing a half baked product just to satiate fans? Have you no concept of how her art works? Releasing an early version of PI without an inkling of what the whole album would be like is comparable to Picasso displaying his painting with only one brush stroke. It's unfinished. And how is releasing it just to satisfy fans prove artistic integrity? This term is not used to describe an artist making art FOR THE AUDIENCE. Artistic integrity means making the art FOR THE ART. :saladga:

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

As quoted by RedOne, "we did 8 songs so far" back in July. We have no idea so far of when it got scrapped, but seeing the duration that it has progressed and RedOne no longer in the studio for the 8 songs, it's closer to the end product than a half baked. I might be wrong, but that's as close as I could get for the songs progress.

"I can't say for certain that she isn't aiming for award shows but you couldn't prove your assumption either."
There're more proofs to prove my point than your invalidation of my point actually. Taylor, Bieber, Katy, and Gaga herself have choosen to use this strategy over the years; one song to qualify for the next grammy, and album for the grammy after next.

"Artistic integrity means making the art FOR THE ART"
I'm not in the art industry. I was talking about integrity (hype and scrapped?) as an artist towards the fans, if you would like to talk about artist for the sake of art, I believe there're lots of unknown artist making really good musics that we would never know. Given that you knowing so much about such artistic artist, you would have known these artists by now that most fans like me would never know. I'm glad to listen those if you're kind to share here.

I like the song too. But compared to Bad Romance it's a basic mess

I think that the main critique for using PI as a lead was that it was probably the most radio friendly track? Maybe they didn't have many options to choose from? I think it was mentioned how the album isn't really Top 40 material. I could be wrong. But I don't think the song was truly expected to instantly be #1. I love it, but this might be the reality of the album.
