However, you cannot justify that every song she comes out with is great, cause the truth is sometimes it's not and sometimes the bigger truth is she can do better, any monster would be lying if they said they expected perfect illusion lol. There are indie classics and rock classics that are the standard for what can be labelled as a great rock song or a great indie song and Gaga is way out of line, so it's not a strictly opinionated matter. If Gaga's aim with the next album is to let it all out and just be herself, then monsters and herself can justify that being a good thing artistically speaking but there is no guarantee that the music itself is going to be off outstanding quality and better than her previous efforts. Guess we will find out when the album is out. From a music lover perspective before the perspective of being a Gaga stan, I expected better than PI, lyrically, sonically and vocally tbh and that's just cause I know she could have done better with a lead single (the issue OP raises). The quality for my standards is just not there and I always try to be fair and assess the artists based on what they have offered in the past and what is the logical step forward. For example when Katy came out with Rise, I was like it's a good song for her standards, there is a clear lyrical and sonic evolution, the record sounds mature and solid compared to her candy hits like Birthday and This Is How We Do. If Gaga simply did not want a basic pop song, she could have given us something like Hello by Adele or Ghost by Ella Henderson. Real music that's far from basic can still become a commercial hit and the magic of it has to do with people relating to a song lyrically or feeling empowered by it vocally. A hit or good record doesn't have to be an EDM track or a pure pop track. Wtv i guess hardcore stans just won't get it and see everything as hate or lies. I kinda disagree. Artist love to be awarded, in the context i understood correctly of your term "slayage". Grammy is the pinnacle. She would have released PI/Joanne months earlier/later if not for the qualification for Grammy, and avoided fighting with Lemonade and 22. There's marketing and strategy as I see for the releasing of PI and Joanne. And IF she did have more artist integrity, songs that she hyped since early 2015, that fans waited for so long, she would have just released for us fans to enjoy while finishing for Joanne.
