At least with Rihanna she came back and did well. and Rihanna had 3 songs, so for Rihanna I don't count it as much as Ari and Hilary. Rihanna didn't reach the mark she was hoping and came back with a new vision and new theme and new sound. Is there a receipt for this? lol I don't have receipts, but yeah it was the original lead for Moonlight which turned into DW. 1 minute ago, AntiPotCrusader said: I doubt these acts scrap entire albums tbh. Rework eras and maybe record a stronger lead lol. Rihanna and Ariana both did it though. It completely altered both albums. Yuuri 21,636
Gwen Stefani did it twice with Baby Don't Lie, and then Spark The Fire, and then she settled with Used To Love You.

She took 3 good singles and gave us an album of boring music to be faux artistic. It's very deplorable to me. Rihanna kept trying until she found something that would sell and then acted like she was doing a deep artistic album. Dangerous Man 9,245
Also, it's not like Ariana scrapped Focus just to make a radio candy trend hopping lead single. Dangerous Woman is definitely a step up in terms of quality and it's not the generic song you always hear, Ari didn't just scrap Focus bc of commercial failure, if that was the case she could have released a more radio-friendly one but she went into improving the quality of the lead single and the risk paid off. JesseBabe 837
Idk. Part of me thinks it's a little extra, but at the same time, if you're first single off your new album flops, then how likely will your album also? And then it turns into a whole losing money situation. I just hate when they pretend like it never happened and don't include the song on the album, (Gwen, Ari, Rihanna, Hilary). I think it could either be really good and make them step up their music or it could basically just be filled with trend following songs that don't really go anywhere and don't sound authentic. The risk did pay off, and I'm glad it did. She was forced to do something different. Focus did sound similar to Problem and the public wasn't here for it. It's actually really good focus kind of flopped. It really helped Ariana grow.

So many of these pop girls just sing what's written for them, wear what their image consultant tells them to wear, etc... just part of a formula. With "artists" like that, it would not surprise me if they would scrap or rework an entire album if the lead flops. I'm not saying any artist named in this thread necessarily falls into that category. But I'm sure at least some of the given examples do.

She's still establishing her career and she can't afford to flop early. There's nothing wrong in trying to be as successful as much as you can. In fact, these artists need to be praised bc they scrapped an almost finished album and make an almost new one, it took them a lot of money, time and effort for sure. lol like if Ariana does her own songs
