Redoing albums because of poor lead singles?

Recently 2 artists have scraped albums because of poor lead single sales.

Rihanna with Four Five Seconds

Ariana with Focus

Each of these artists took a break after these singles (besides Rhianna releasing BBHMM and AO) and came back with new lead singles

Rhianna-Work

Ariana-Dangerous Women

Making a new lead single became very beneficial for Rhianna and Ariana, both of there albums became pretty successful with there new direction and lead singles.

Why did this work out so well? It seems so shallow to scrap a whole album because the lead single didn't do that well, also it's really shitty to fans. BUT marketing wise it ends up working great.

Will this become a trend for future artists?

And what about Fergie? She released LA Love and then MILF $.  Should she make ANOTHER lead single or just run with MILF $?

Hmm, I still think that Gaga was not for PI. I still think that the song with RedOne was much better for a first single.

Yes it is, but for some reason it seems to be pretty beneficial

Will probably be the second single right before the album to garner hype!

No it's not? Especially for new acts like  Ariana. She's still establishing her career and she can't afford to  flop early. There's nothing wrong in trying to be as successful as much as you can. In fact, these artists need to be praised bc they scrapped an almost finished album and make an almost new one, it took them a lot of money, time and effort for sure.

I think it's disgusting and commercially obsessed and honestly pathetic. If you can sacrifice your vision because the first single didn't take off, then why even be an artist? I lost so much respect for Ariana and Hillary Duff and I straight up turned in my fanart when Rihanna did it. It's deplorable
