Hey GGD,

I'd like to try to break up the monotony of all these dramatic PI related posts and share some of my thoughts with you guys.

The title of this thread is probably the Gaga quote in relation to Perfect illusion that's stuck with me the most, especially in the week plus since its release. She also describes it as "ragey" and I think this fits the mood and feeling the song gives off. This song gets me going like few other Gaga songs (or any other artist's songs) ever have. That's not to say that I haven't been emotionally moved by plenty of songs, because I have. But PI gives me such a rush of energy and makes me able to release all of my negative emotions. It's both cathartic and triumphant and I love it. If the rest of the songs on Joanne have the same energy and passion behind them as PI then it'll be her best album yet.  Regardless, I can't help shake the feeling that Joanne will be her best work and I can't wait to hear it. I never thought any Gaga album could ever top BTW for me but now it seems possible. October 21st can't come soon enough...

 

anyways, I don't really know what kind of discussion this post is supposed to start but I just needed to share my thoughts with other people who are as passionate about Gaga as I am. I haven't really been vocal on this site in the 5 years I've been here (hence my username!) but maybe this is the start of me posting more? Idk. I hope this post finds you all well

Agreed. Once the song gets going, for me, it grabs me and doesn't let go until the vocals trail off. In fact, most Gaga tracks have that effect, she and her producers are great at finding subtle ways to keep the listener engaged. Pretty inspiring.

Yeah, Perfect Illusion is giving me a lot of hope for Joanne. I can't sit here and pretend I love the whole song; I think there needs to be some tweaks on the instrumental (where them drums at!?) and there needs to be something more after the key change like a heavier general sound or some more lyrics. However, the general direction is good and one I've been waiting Gaga to go in, even if she is only taking baby steps.

Don't worry, I don't hope the rest of the album sounds like PI either! That'd ruin the impact of PI--plus an album of 10+ songs that sound the same would be boring! I do however hope that she brings the same passion to the rest of the album (which I know she will)

I am extremely excited for Joanne, this is all that I wanted from Gaga, this era just keeps giving me life(I hope she decides to perform again, I love seeing her on Tv or something because she'll never tour in my country). 

I feel like this will be my favorite Gaga album so far, those ballads are amazing for sure.

Cathartic and triumphant is the perfect description. It feels like such a pained and desperate cry and yet, it almost feels like an accusation. There's disappointment, anger, confusion, sadness...so much emotion in this track. The vocal performance is easily the rawest and possibly the strongest in her discography thus far.
