She would play the 'Bad' album in the car non-stop when I was a kid! My mom got me into MJ as well I love that album. My mom would always play disco, soul, and funk and my dad would play 80s new wave, punk and rock. No wonder I'm a Gaga fan Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. SATURN 15
got myself into michael´s music at a young age, the greatest hits era from the late 2000´s and on if i recall right, were really good times and watching his tribute performances full of stars and celebrities was really cool

BlaqJezus 1,027
This is a bit of a hard question for GGD, because though I feel his music is timeless and legendary, many of the members of this site weren't really old enough to appreciate him before his death. Anderson123 38,224
Well yes. I have an older brother who grew up in the 80's and my parents had a big collection of disco, dance, pop, classic rock cassettes. I mean, I was not the biggest fan but I knew about him and his music. He was always fun to listen to at parties. I gotta say I started listening to him more after he died, not the days after he died because you know everyone rushes to play his music, but maybe the year after that ? MJ is really one of the greatest.
BlaqJezus 1,027
It is also a generational thing, the influence of your parents. Most of my younger friends have never heard Stevie Nicks or know what Fleetwood Mac is, have never heard most of David Bowie's vast musical collection or who Joni Mitchell is or sampled Madonna way back. I did, and that was because my parents enjoyed that music and I listened to it as a child, and I began to love the complexity and art of it when the world was full of music that had a message and was a real outpouring of emotion from the artist. Nowadays, that is rarer and rarer all the time.
VOLANTIS 16,404
I was a child so ofc there was no access to social media but I've always considered MJ and Madonna Iconic and Legendary ever since I could remember. ReidOne 12,427
Loving the replies. This thread is not shade to the younger folks! I honestly made this poll to help myself keep things in perspective... ...when I watch/listen to Gaga, I see Michael Jackson. And sometimes I forget that a large number (majority?) of her fans weren't even old enough to know MJ when he was alive. Michael Jackson was the definition of a pop star for the majority of my life. I was 26 when he died! Makes me feel lucky that I had the opportunity to witness it. But also, puts into perspective what a legacy he has left behind, through Gaga and through all of us who still listen.

display name 4,360
I've never been a big fan of his music. His death certainly didn't affect my appreciation of him as a pop icon in any way. I've always loved "Human Nature" and "Smooth Criminal" at least.
