So many folks on here dragging the Born This Way album cover for filth today... Believe me, I totally get it. But I also want to make sure everyone understands what she was referencing with that cover...

It's a nod to the classic Judas Priest 'Painkiller' album cover:

This is really important for a number of reasons...

- Judas Priest is the definition of the "metal" sound and aesthetic she was going for on the album

- Most importantly, the lead singer of Judas Priest is a homosexual!! Which is kind of crazy considering he's a heavy metal legend from the 80's. (Born this way, baby!!)

Rob Halford, the lead singer of Judas Priest, is one of Gaga's idols! He even met up with her at the San Diego artRAVE backstage:

Honestly, I consider Born This Way album cover to be one of her all-time greatest.

The meaning behind it whilst really nice is kinda regardless whether someone likes the look of it or not. Happily though, I'm one of the few in the fanbase that do like it! It's very eye catching and ballsy!

that was a nice cultural/musical reference, but i like its symbolism even more: the idea of being a vehicle for her dreams and for those of her fans.

Also worth noting that it was Starlight that encouraged Gaga to go with that cover... originally it was going to use this image -

not sure, but I think rolling stone said that the BTW cover was one of the best and one of the worst. It was the only double entry on their list. It was very high in the best covers of all time, but it also was present in the worst..

Okay, I had NO idea the lead singer of Judas Priest was gay. My mind is blown. Painkiller is such an amazing song, especially to sing along to, and Redeemer of Souls is one of the best metal albums I've heard.
