I think a 256 mp3 file is different then a 256 m4a (iTunes file) file.

They're the same quality, just different formats. :)

Oh, I read somewhere that a 320kbps MP3 sounds the same as a 256kbps M4A. So that must be bullocks. :sweat:

In some occasions, the 256kbps M4A sounds a lot better. That's why I always go for iTunes rips when it comes to music.

It usually sounds better because it's official, and other downloads from other sources can often be lower quality rips upscaled, etc. But iTunes Plus sounds the same as ripping an album from CD in 256kbps! :)

But there's always a way to know if they're upscaled or not. What I mean to say is that sometimes iTunes rips sound better than actual CD rips.
