Robo Ga 15,297
Hear me out. I wish Gaga would use a little bit of pitch correction on her voice in studio versions. Just slightly. Enough to make her songs sound polished. I love Perfect Illusion but the same thing that plagued me with Applause, and many songs on ARTPOP, is that her songs sound like DEMOS when the voice isn't corrected. I am not saying she should go full T-Pain and autotune the sh** out of everything. I'm saying that studio versions should sound polished, and live performances should sound gritty and real. All of her hit records has used a degree of vocal effects - and she always used them sparingly and wisely, and it sounded amazing (I'm thinking particularly of Alejandro, Edge of Glory, ...) This sound appeals to both fans and the GP. I've tried very hard to get used to it, and I truly love Perfect Illusion, but ever since PI's release I have been wondering if this will be what she does forever. Part of me wants to accept that change, and part of me hopes there might be more "polished" sounding vocals on LG5. So... does it bother you when the vocal on the studio track sounds "live"? Spoiler *Disclaimer: There's a difference between unpolished live vocals and "Dope" vocals. Dope was intentionally slurred and recorded in one take because of the message of the song. Also, I don't consider TIHTY vocals (which many call Dope vocals) in this discussion because that song was done for a movie and is not part of her pop music discography imo. 🤖⚡️

calmar 22,054
Nah. I mean, if it fits the song or the message or the aesthetic, then sure (see the super-heavy autotune in Believe, by Cher, done more to showcase the effect because it was new than anything else). It's just a tool like any other. But Gaga critically absolutely doesn't need this tool, and if the album is about her being herself, then I doubt there would be too much smoothing over. 俺の勝利は揺るぎない
Poissonche 12,365
The only thing that I'm gonna miss from the "pitch correction era" is the fact that the live versions sound much, much better than the studio versions. If she wants to do it, she can and I wouldn't mind, but I don't think she did all these covers and tributes and Til It Happens To You just to go back to releasing pitch-corrected music. HOTNebraskaGuy 19,547
I think she should be able to do whatever she wants to do and I won't complain because as long as it's her vocals I couldn't care less if she altered nothing or the entire song. One, five, ten lay a million on me

Miel 15,009
I see what you mean. But, one of the reasons I absolutely love Perfect Illusion is because of how natural and raw it sounds. Like, intentionally unpolished. 3 points in and ready for more
Supersonic 49,376
She can do whatever she wants but personally... I prefer the vocals without pitch correction because it gives you a good look at a singers vocal capablities. You argue that she should use it to polish it up but let's be honest, pitch correction is still a relatively young technique. Like 25 to 30 years ago it wasn't even common or possible to record music digitally altogether. While it may sound cool at times as a stylistic device, it definitely opened the market to loads of blatantly untalented singers that get away with it because of live pitch correction, pre-recording vocals or lip syncing. In this relatively short time pitch correction has become such a powerful tool that it literally changed the general consensous on how a good voice should sound like and imo that's scary. Not only because of the power, but also because the ideal shifted from technical brilliance to bland, glacial and emotionless vocals.
Vague 424
She used to use it heavily and because of this albums like The Fame+Monster sound dope on record, but when she performs some of the songs you can tell she struggled because the album version didn't necessarily match her voice. If you watch The Monster Ball v.1.0 its so obvious. Pitch correction isn't my issue with Perfect Illusion, its the composition of the song I guess? Idk how to articulate it because I know nothing of music production. But its something about the way its like maniacally put together, I get the concept behind why that is, but its not something I want to listen to. Her voice being more raw is more of a plus to me than a negative.
djBuffoon 12,115
There has been pitch correction used (smartly) in all of her albums so far, including ARTPOP, so not sure what you mean.

I would argue that she makes music not only for herself, but for her family, her friends, her fans, and the GP. She wouldn't be doing a promotional tour for PI if the music was solely for herself. In the end, it will always be her decision what she will release and how it will sound. However, we have the right to critique it. 🤖⚡️
giskardsb 12,565
I don't like that auto tune has poisoned people's expectations of what good vocals are. If it was up to me I'd make it illegal.
