If she wanted, Gaga could have more hits

I think that if Gaga wanted to purposely be successful, she could have more hits. Now, I am not saying that she doesn't want her music to be successful. What I am saying is that she wants her songs to do well, but in her own terms. She rather have her artistry to be successful than not. But she won't go out of her way to purposely make trendy music just to have hits. She simply has never done that. If she wanted she could go to the popular hit-maker producers or follow the trendy sounds like Rihanna, Katy, Sia, Britney, and Bieber do. She could easily work with Calvin Harris, Max Martin, like Rihanna and Katy. She could switch her sound to tropical house/urban like Sia. She could make simple urban music like Britney. Even Beyonce, who has been praised with her past two albums, technically changed her sound to a more trap/modern R&B focused sound to keep up with what the radio is playing. But instead Gaga continues to make whatever she wants to make even if that means compromising her popularity. This is why she always struggles in the charts. I mean, just listen to PI. The song is anything but trendy. And this is even more risky considering the fact that she hadn't been played on the radio for 3 years and that her past album under-performed. Only Gaga is willing to pursue her vision no matter what. And whether or not you like what she releasing. You just have to admire her for her bravery.

I'm beginning to wonder whether Gaga still knows what's hot these days and what isn't music wise. Also, her working with Mark and Bloodpop, a.k.a the producers of basically the biggest recent hits doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.

Gaga said she can write a bunch of hits but she says that she doesn't because she doesn't want to be a sell-out. She mostly said something like that.

Actually, she said in a UK interview that she worked with them because they are songwriters and musicians at heart like she is. Also, she has known Mark Ronson for a long time, and it was ronson's idea to bring Bloodpop to work with her, not Gaga's.

This can be explained because people that are artistic, are usually very creative and out of the box, and that is the opposite of what the radio plays. Its rare when something artistic becomes a hit.
