Wolf Boy 3,165
Yeah it reminds me a bit of Sin City as well, got a bit of a cinematic noir-ish feel to it.
itmightberyan 21
One thing has been confusing me ever since Sever came out. If Sever picks up where 20101104 leaves off, what about ;john and Clump? Elements from Clump obviously still exist (The clumps themselves, or whatever you want to call them. My friend Kloe calls them the mop monsters) Story-wise though, it seems it has been erased. ; john is my all time favorite song, but I don't like the thought of it being a failed storyline. I don't know, I just feel like something is messed up here. I always thought that with John, she brought her client into the room.. The person who receives payment for s-xual services is called a prostitute and the person who receives such services is known by a multitude of terms, including "john" Then in Clump..That was her with the client in the act itself. Then Sever onward was the effects of what she did. That's what I think anyway. :P
deathray 1
Can somebody please explain what the videos are about? I started listening to them just recently. Or give me a link or something…

It's the same apartment, from the looks of it.

Lol, if so there's a whole story arc for it.

Shan 0
One thing has been confusing me ever since Sever came out. If Sever picks up where 20101104 leaves off, what about ;john and Clump? Elements from Clump obviously still exist (The clumps themselves, or whatever you want to call them. I don't know, I just feel like something is messed up here. This is the simplest way I see it: The clumps aren't even real. They are manifestations of her guilt of giving herself to prostitution. When she was having s-x in clump, she saw the clump in her mind when she closed her eyes. In Sever the guilt (clump) wants to take over her, but she's resisting. Notice at the end when she's dancing, the clump isn't really there. In drops she runs away from it. Also notice in drops a man across from her apartment also has a clump, and is sweating. It looks like the clump has him in its grip, and I'd like to think everyone has guilt or a "clump" because of the things they've done. In good worker it seems to take her and drag her somewhere. Notice how in some scenes she's being dragged away by it, and in some scenes she's riding in a car. I think her riding in the car is reality, while the clump dragging her away is the metaphor. In play... it seems as though she almost embraces ALL of her guilt and negative emotions, and "plays" along with them. Maybe it means she has finally faced them? So, if all I said was correct, that would mean ; john is actually NEEDED for the kin series. It basically set the entire thing up along with clump. They're like preludes to the kin era. :)
Queen Gloria 3,434
If this series is about her being a prostitute I don't think the only emotion she feels for it is regret or shame. Play is obviously embracing it, and Good Worker doesn't seem to be about being a prostitute at all, it seems more along the lines of Grace Jones' Slave To The Rhythm (working and giving yourself up to the grind of life) To me, a lot of the lyrics in Sever and Drops seem to be about her relationship with us the fans, and how iam almost has a "you should be grateful for what you're getting/ I don't have to be doing this" attitude. "One more fault costs you all until I'm through" from Drops, for example, and "To be accepted I must blend into convention's way, and sing the universal ways" from Sever. People have said the Kin series could either be about Jonna's relationship with a record label, or with us, or both. But since this project is so secretive, we'll never fully know. Shan 0
I'm not saying the series is about her being a prostitute. Who knows, maybe the entire prostitute thing is symbolic for letting a label basically "use" you any way they want. It also may be about how labels tend to s-xualize their female artists. I think it has lots of possibilities. I honestly don't think she has ever been a prostitute, but I think she is very afraid of selling out like a hooker. But maybe at the end of Play she embraces her guilt or feelings about selling out. Who knows.
Queen Gloria 3,434
It could be that too! I think a certain part of it is about us the fans, like her performance of N from the "in concert" special. A lot of people take that to symbolize that SUTS was the representation of all of us, not just him as an individual, and Jonna was singing to us. Because it started as such an unknown project, it definitely feels like Jonna is making direct references to us sometimes.

They were far more distorted and since they set up the clump monsters, which in the other videos seem to be something she only sees, it serves to lend to the fact that they are actually figments of her imagination. Possibly physical representations of her sin.

Lots of people are quick to assume that all "prostitution" references in iamamiwhoami's work are directed at a record label, but I think it's more about the relationship between pop performers and the masses if there's some kind of music industry metaphor happening. Note that "clump" was filmed in a way that implies the viewer is the one having s-x with Jonna. Edited April 6, 2012 by Fluorine
