PI Production is Perfect

There's been lots of posts from both sides... users who LOVE and don't love Perfect Illusion who have said that the production is "lacking" and "understated"... wishing they could change this, or change that...

And I know what they mean. I heard it too, at first.

But after 48 hours, I'm here to say, I WOULDN'T CHANGE A GOD DAMN THING. There's a method to the production of this song. It's built for repeated listens. If the instrumental elements were any "higher" or "louder" it would tamper with the ability to play it on repeat. And this song is built to be played on repeat!! Whether streaming or on radio playlists. This is a true pop song, through and through.

The vocal and top line melody carry the song. And make you want to listen again and again. But because the instrumental is so muted below everything, it leaves a treasure trove of sonic brilliance to be discovered over time. Making repeat listens more and more enjoyable.

It's truly perfect, just as it is!

Agreed. I love hearing Kevin Parker's traditional Tame Impala's synths in the heart of the song, especially during the key change. It's eerie

Speaking of repeated listens... One thing I noticed while watching Gaga's first performance at MOTH is that she is INTIMATELY familiar with this song. She knows absolutely every second. She takes breaks to catch her breath or shout to the crowd, but she manages to pick the song up right where she left off, already in progress. She knows every note.

Point is, she's clearly listened to it again, and again, and again, and again.

This isn't some half-assed release. It's a classic. And she knows it.

Its instrumental truly is a work of art, its beautifully layered to the point that you wont hear every sound on even the 10th listen, plus it's so oddly haunting and emotionally fueled

It also needs to be heard on a good sound system, not cheap earbuds that lose detail.

I've listened 6 ways:

- in the car, on the radio (FM)
- in the car, on satellite radio
- in the car, on iTunes (via Bluetooth)
- in the car, on Spotify (via Bluetooth)
- in cheap Apple earbuds that came with my iPhone
- on my home computer speakers (which are great, but not the greatest)... on YouTube, iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud

I have loved all experiences, EXCEPT the Apple earbuds. Sounded light and tacky in those. All other methods of listening (especially the car) has left me bald/slayed/scammed/scalped/etc...

Almost forgot... also listened on my work Lenovo ThinkPad speakers and all I could hear was the top line... and it was still brilliant!!

Just the earbuds left me cold.
