How is Closer so disgustingly successful?

I suppose because other people like it. :shrug: It's a product of the industry machine which does what it does because what it does is successful with the vast majority of consumers. I personally don't see how there's appeal to the song, but then again, as someone who isn't straight, isn't trying to not grow up, has no exes, and who doesn't find any appeal in having rando sex, the song isn't targeted to me in the slightest way.

It seems that being a lesser known or lesser success is the way to get a #1 now. When it comes to singles, the public don't seen as fussed about the big names at the moment. They want songs from people they barely know. I've never understood this concept. The public love to fawn over someone for a few singles and then completely drop them, it's weird. Or they love their singles but don't buy their album. I wish the public would become better discerners of who's going to be a one hit wonder. There's too many people getting hits now who clearly won't be around in years to come and we'll look back at the list of #1s in years gone by and say: "Who are these people?"
