ARTGOD 3,266
She already got the young queer demographic and the old demographic thanks to Tonny, now she's coming for the young straight males and then for the children, Katy is SHOOK. brownie 5
Ugh, I hate posts like this. I'm a straight male and a huge Gaga fan, and people have been outright rude to me the moment I say I'm a Gaga fan. This whole "YAAASSSS BITCH GAGA SLAYS THE GAYS" culture that's been built around her since Born This Way can be completely insular to anyone NOT gay, and it's honestly hard being a straight male who loves and respects her as a creative artist and not the LGBT savior. We need to ditch the whole "Gaga is for the gays" attitude. She's an amazing artist accessible to anyone. All the recent "my straight friends like the song" posts have just reminded me of how much of an issue it can be.

She is one of the greatest artists of our time --- of any medium. Her appeal crosses all ages, genders, sexual preferences, nationalities, and artistic interests. She's so much more than just a "gay pop queen." As a gay man, I will always feel grateful to her for all she has done to advance gay rights and celebration of gay culture. But it does not define her as a performer or her artistic output.

I understand it's sensitive for you, but don't take stuff like this personally, at least not on here. Maybe people in your day to day life have been rude about your appreciation for her, but hopefully this site hasn't been. Besides, I've had several straight friends who used to bump her music louder than me because they loved the beats and music and said it sounded great in their cars. It's OK to like who you like without feeling like you have to fight for why you like them..

ALL of my other male friends consider her a "gay artist". I can't really talk about her with them..or any of my friends, really. There's too much a "gay stigma" around her. I am COMPLETELY 100% pro-LGBT and think she's done great work in the field, but I mean...I've been bullied for liking her. Called a fag and so on. Kinda defeats the point, right? But also shows just how much her message is needed (that we can't keep defining each other by these ancient stereotypes and misconceptions). I'm proud of you for continuing to be a fan despite the criticism. You are helping advance her message. And most of all, it's important to be proud of what you enjoy, everyone else be damned. That's always been my attitude (even though it's brought on lots of ridicule over the years).
