Yes, her & her team's knack for narrative storytelling is crazy, she is brilliant at marketing!!  :firega: that's one of the reasons I follow her. She's similar to Andy Warhol in that sense. I'm not saying she can't do that, or it's wrong at all. The spin she's been putting on Perfect Illusion is just so much less believable to me than a lot of her previous work. Haven't seen the video yet though, hopefully she & Ruth come up with some epic stuff! :rockstar:

(I'm out of "Likes" for the day!!)

I personally don't think the song is about Taylor at all. Unless Taylor did something horrendously awful to her, I don't think she would broadcast to the world that she never loved him and it was all a perfect illusion. That would make her a pretty sh!tty person and we all know she's not.

My interpretation is that Gaga intends the song to be about the social media world and trying to find what's real among all the perfect illusions. I believe she has written the lyrics to sound like it's about a relationship because that's what most people can relate to. She did the same with The Edge of Glory. Lyrically it sounds like a simple love song between two lovers but of course we all know the true meaning of the song.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

LOL - I will admit and agree that my thread is a mess!!! I no longer hold the opinions in my OP.

I'm still trying to unravel all the meaning and mystery about all this. Precisely why I love Gaga... she gives us so much to chew on!!

But yes, I repent for my sins of questioning Gaga's intentions here!! I was wrong. But I'm grateful for the thread, as it is opening my eyes a bit.

(I still think she's playing a media game with the Taylor split/PI lyrics... But it's clearly more complex and not nearly as transparent as I was making it seem in the OP... slay me, Gaga!!)

Sorry to be an ass! You're pretty rad my bad!

My thoughts exactly. You don't go around calling someone your soul mate and to root you on and then say that your love was never real. If really hurt that bad, why did she called him her soulmate?

I do believe it's about Taylor, but she didn't intentionally delay the announcement that they're on a break because PI was being released. She hasn't name dropped him in interviews when she has been asked what the song is about, if she wanted to make headlines she could have said "Taylor had an affair".

Btw, in one of her interviews yesterday she said something about going back to who she really was and being her mother's daughter, her sister's sister and her lover's lover. It made my heart skip a bit.

I kinda wanted the hosts to ask her "girl what happened between you and Taylor?!" at that moment.

I'm sure many of them would love to know and wonder about it, because of the lyrics.

I wonder who would be brave enough to ask her directly.

tbh I feel like Gaga and Taylor split up just because gaga was about to enter a new album era, and Taylor's show. I think they maybe just wanted to focus on their lives? Just my theory idk

She probably had a list of requirements that forbid them from asking about the break-up.
