Come to me
In all your glamour and cruelty
Just do that thing that you do
And I'll undress you

okay, so here she says for the person to come to her in their glamour and cruelty, abuse is cruel and Rob was in the glam scene with Gaga, she talks about it all the time about how she was very glam-pop when with him, now, he's in a Glam-Rock band, sounds glamorous to me... and then he does that that he does, which afterwards makes her undress him, what is that thing that he does? does he hurt her? physically? verbally?

Keep it tight
Sometimes the simplest move is right
The melody that you choose
Can rescue you

sometimes the simplest move is right, and the simple move she makes, her melody, can rescue you, from abuse? the melody she chose rescued her from whatever it is that he does, that thing in the last verse, maybe? or she may be talking about this on a more high scale level, like in the next verse. maybe she means she was rescued by her music, she no longer relied on this guy after becoming big, her melody rescued her..

A hybrid can withstand these things
My heart can beat with bricks and strings

a hybrid can withstand these things, that thing that he does that we don't know about. i have no idea what the second line implies but to me she saying her heart still beats even after that thing that he does. you can't have my heart, but do what you want with my body.

Come to me
With all your subtext and fantasy
Just do that thing that you do
In a perverse hue

the man she talks about probably tries to cheer her up after hurting her, but she sees his subtext and she knows s-xual abuse is something of a fantasy to him. she tells him to do that thing that he does, in a perverse hue, why is this hue perverse? because what he's doing is perverted, Gaga is very young and he is 37, it's perverted to her, the hue he sees, what he sees as normal is perverse to her

Lovers' kites
Are flown on beaches for public sight
The color palette you choose
Can profit you

she doesn't see them as lovers because she knows it's wrong, she sees him simply as a primal mate, but she thinks lovers are supposed to fly their kites high and in public sight but she can't keep it public because that thing that he does. the arts Gaga chose, what she utilized to make her art, her music, this man she utilized ended up with her profiting from it, she's trying to keep her head up and be positive

anyway, i hope you now realize there's a reason ARTPOP is in between Do What U Want and Swine. have a nice day... :)

this is re-posted with updates because some people wanted to hear my reasoning. it's been over a year since that last thread.

No, it's about putting together 2 things that can't belong together. It's that easy

Sorry if I come off rude but this seems a bit of a reach.

i understand why you would see this as a reach but it's just an idea i had, i'm not saying it's definitely about that, just throwing some thoughts out there.

Gaga is literally talking to art and pop separately and the chorus just makes it come together.

It's not that raping is not one of today's societies' most important topics, but why the reach?

ARTPOP the track was arguably the best one on the album, and it is a celebration song at heart. It incorporates aspects of a joyful yet complicated relationship, which leads to a notion of a healthy and fulfilling journey.

Why would, otherwise, Gaga sing it in such a happy way and big smile? (receipts: iTUNESfest, Jimmy Fallon, ArtRave).

Off Topic: the yang to the yin of the whole conversation that TIHTY brought regarding the subject of rape and sexual assault is that people should focus more on the healing and empowering process that comes with being a survivor, and not so much becoming entrapped in their own traumatizing memories.

On Topic: please, don't over analyze and incorporate rape in every contemporary display of our culture.

I am sorry but any wording of any gaga song can be made into rape if you twist it enough.

And some of us are so.. incredibly... tired... of all these "this song is about rape and here is why" threads.

i'm not one of those people saying gaga should be condemned for it possibly being about rape. i reached a lot but i didn't twist anything :air: i used all the proper lyrics & tried analyzing it.

if you take it to this level, any gaga song can be about rape, lyrics can be interpreted in many ways

It is a happy and beautiful song though. And this has been happening. Since Just Dance. Maybe even Red and Blue.

Sometimes a song is just a song. It isn't about rape. it doesn't need to be about rape.

i understand. i mean, when i'm listening to the song and want to FEEL it, i think about how it inspires me to live out my passions, not thinking about in the way of my theory above. it might not even be close to what i think the song is about, like you said, a song could just be a song. it doesn't have to be about something deep, but i like to think of music that way, think of how it relates to me.
