German Newspaper BASHES PI & Gaga

The Süddeutsche Zeitung / SZ (South-German Newspaper) - one of the biggest papers in Germany - published a withering (and imo very disrespectful) review on Gaga's new single Perfect Illusion and on herself as an artist.

Spoiler

Lady Gaga is also allowed to be average

Horrors of horrors, "Perfect Illusion", the new song by Lady Gaga is random radio pop - and behind that there's not even a message! Good!

Modern human is a puppeteer. On his strings there are those various roles, with which he moves through everyday life (in the best case it isn't even daily routine, but a daily adventure). A highly functional morning crouch, who uploads an aestethic Out-Of-Bed-Selfie on Instagram while simultaneously sipping his #firstcoffee. A dynamic employee, most favourite collaegue, sports fan, amateur-gourmet, art-house-film-afficiando, pub-connoisseur, couch-potato, ugh.

At anytime a modern human being is far and foremost one thing: tired. Then his hands are convulsed, the strings entangled, the illusion of a multi-personalitiy-manager is lost.
Who am I - and If So How Many? Unfortunately only a little human.

Lady Gaga is the queen of puppeteers, the coronation of homo zeitgeist. Her dexterity suffices not only for numerous roles, meanwhile she is also playing at various levels. This comes to her projection surface for very different audiences: Lady Gaga is many - but still that one particular person, who's wanted to be seen by the admirer. It is only seductively logical, that her new single, the first after barely three years (except the movie soundtrack TIHTY), is named "Perfect Illusion".

It is a love song, particularly, a song about broken love. It begins with implied screams, somwhere in between of human and machine, thereto a few guitar-riffs, the rest of it are disco beats. The 30-year-old New Yorker sings "It wasn't love, it wasn't love / It was a perfect illusion". By that, you can draw two conclusions. First: Lady Gaga is musically coming to terms with her break-up with fiancé Taylor Kinney. Second: She's doing so with her attributed manner, maximum of self-consciousness and protesting. That guy's gone? **** it, let's dance!

Perfectly made for radio background noise

However, that doesn't seem so convincing. Lady Gaga's voice, who has yet catered for real tears at the acting-elite at the bygone Academy Awards, doesn't transfer a single emotion. No sadness, no anger, defiance or hysteric joy. Those are feelings - that just could be felt so when a relationship ends after five years. She sings her song, like if it is a commissional work, if somebody had given her money, to squeeze those particular words into the microphone. For Lady Gaga, who's seen as an authentical artifical character in Popbiz like none other, from whom you would gladly like to believe, that she is the anti-hero with attitude, the opposite to all those mainstream-marionettes, this is most likely the worst assessment. In that respect, it is almost bestowed, that the song sounds arbitrary overall, like really made for radio background noise.

Lady Gaga bearing the wonderful civic name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. That is the little human behind the The Fame Monster. Not only since "Perfect Illusion" an impression has been obtruded that this little human is really tired. Tired of controlling all strings, tired of all those expectations, yes, also tired of having high hopes of her. From young people having the feeling to be different than everybody else, from those, who do not (want to) match with common beauty standards, from mobbing victims, from victims of sexual abuse, from the LGBT-Community.

Against the dictate in order to functionate!

Lady Gaga names her fans "Little Monsters". Of course doing that in a caring manner. But the truth is also: Worship, like it is met with somebody like her, can be monstrously tiring. Obviously, any fan would admit that Lady Gaga is broken - but expectations would also indicate an admission as a form of liberation impact against capitalist constraints.  Against the dictate to functionate! This woman even produces from the simple, biological necessity of breathing an artistic statement during her shows.

"Only" an average song as expression of artistic creation and maybe overextension? Way too subtle for Lady Gaga.  Not to mention the fact that the whole concept of Gaga was all along way more convincing than her musical single-achievements. Maybe except for "PokerFace" once.

But precisely because mediocrity doesn't seem to fit with Lady Gaga, it is good, that "Perfect Illusion" exists - because even a Lady Gaga is (sometimes) only a little human.

What do you expect? No one around me likes it. NO ONE I showed. My mom thought she only screams, my friends were like "wtf, stop this mess, this was the song you were hyping to us, lol"

Germany doesn't have a good taste in music. And I live here since my whole life. They like bullshit like Helene Fischer.

Germany has  always been a harsh critic. This is not reflective of perfect illusion, because they've done this for almost all of her work.
