Positive comments on Perfect Illusion

Just like any Gaga release, PI is a very polarizing song. Some people like it and some don't. But in general most people seem to like it. Here are positive comments from the media about PI:

-Bustle: "let's face it, as tremendous a performer and actress as she may be, nothing compares to how perfectly pop her music is when it's at it's best. So, it's with much relief that I can report Gaga released her new single, "Perfect Illusion"on Friday morning, and it's a blissful burst of anthemic-rock infused dance pop."

-The Atlantic:"She’s dressing more like a normie these days, but Lady Gaga is still a weirdo. No other pop star in need of a comeback in 2016 would stake it on “Perfect Illusion,” a song that has no clear electronic dance signifiers, no hip-hop influence, little to no vocal manipulation, and no chill. It will stick out on radio playlists like a meat dress on a red carpet; whether it’ll thus be promptly thrown out for bad taste or be hailed as brave and trendsetting will be a question for the masses."

-NME: "Lady Gaga makes  a formidable return with disco banger. It wasn't love, it wasn't love/It was a perfect illusion," she sings on its instantly catchy chorus, sounding at once powerful and totally fine with the situation that's unfurled."

-EW: "This time, she skips the flashy synths and club beats for a streamlined, rock-n-roll banger made with an unlikely team"

-Daily Beast: "A groovy, lower lip-biting, "hell yeah… alright…" of a pop-rock banger, Lady Gaga's Pat Benatar moment becomes one of those orgasmic musical releases. When your dutifully tapping foot transforms, almost as if under a spell, into a pogo stick and you find yourself compelled to ecclesiastical jumping, belting out the chorus to "Perfect Illusion" like it's an experience both religious and sexual.

It's the moment Lady Gaga's formidable banger and return to pop music transforms itself from a pleasant and acceptable comeback effort to something great and undeniable. It might even color your impression of the entire song."

-Vox:“Perfect Illusion” is a three-minute chip off the ol’ dance-pop block, bridging the space between driving disco and Springsteen-esque anthem (the latter of which greatly informed the best singles off Gag’s 2011 hit album, Born This Way). It’s an encouraging return to form for Gaga"

-Business Insider: "Lady Gaga just dropped her first new single in years, 'Perfect Illusion,' and it's fantastic. But that's not to say this isn't the Gaga we know. The '80s arena-rock vibe that owes something to both Bruce Springsteen and hair-metal as well as more straightforward pop of the decade, and those soaring, hold-nothing-back vocals, are vintage Gaga. And with the hooks on this brief earworm ("It wasn't luuuuhv"), expect to hear this thing all over the radio or your friend's playlist immediately."

-The Verge: "The song is reminiscent of "Bad Romance"-era Gaga, but with the extra adrenaline shot of a big stadium rock song and some twinkly, vaguely creepy '80s synthesizers. There's definitely a kick to her voice, and a toughness that has been on a back shelf since 2009's The Fame Monster."

-People: "Mother Monster is back! Lady Gaga released her long-awaited single "Perfect Illusion" and the wait was totally worth it."

-Vulture: "the song is a catchy, quirky return to form from a pop A-lister finally ready to storm the charts again."

-Digital Spy: "Early reviews from radio stations declared an almighty return. This is a Lady Gaga banger that's been undressed – both in sound and image. The disco-rock refrain pretty much blasts you at full volume from the 30-second point onwards, but compared to the star's last few releases, it doesn't feel overly cluttered. It has a decent melody, and a surging, stadium-worthy build-up that echoes Bruce Springsteen. 'Perfect Illusion' is Gaga getting to grips with songwriting again – and she sounds all the better for it."

-The Telegraph: "It delights me to write that this is a return to Just Dance-era Gaga: a simple, infectiously catchy slice of floor-filling, stadium-cheering pop. What’s gradually happened since 2008 is that Gaga has allowed her stage school-trained voice to show off. On Perfect Illusion it has a rich timbre, a force of emotion that has previously been overshadow on tracks such as Applause – her last big single – by production. Her vocals hint at Gaga’s signature brand of weird, but mostly they just show what many people don’t realise: that she’s an excellent singer.  Perfect Illusion doesn’t mess about with complicated messages or navel-gazing introspections; it’s just a song about realising that you’re not in love with somebody. In that way, this is classic Gaga, who has always toyed with matters of the heart and painted them anew – I daresay the video will give more insight into how she does so with this. But for now, the song will do just fine: it’s a joy to have Gaga – and just Gaga – back."

I completely agree with the last review there. It is easy to digest, certainly infectious, and yeah, the guys she worked with this time weren't afraid to let Gaga's voice carry the track.

Seeing this positivity in one place is really nice. It's obvious that Gaga's been working really hard on this new music, so it must be nice for her to see as well.
