You're a graphic design student. So, that means you took...probably 2 photography classes during your years of school depending on which year you are in, and depending on which school (and depending on how much you like photography and decided to take more classes)? Her cover art isn't some retro-palette oil painting depicting a volcano exploding behind a hero and heroine who are saving us from the pitfalls of popdom, nor is her cover art a cartoon character which will be lovingly reproduced a million times (on baby diapers, enjoy that internship, it's comin' for ya). I know what imagery is and the vehicle of transformation it can be for an artist and in a place of business, but not because you told me.

We don't know that she is pushing rock on us as much as she is portraying the rock stars of old. We don't know a whole lot of how this will impact us fully when the music, which this whole venture was produced around, is revealed. I would say you should probably hold off you judgement until that happens, and keep in mind that until you fully know what you are trying to sell, you don't jump in with creative ideas to apply to it.

Something maybe you didn't get, because I think you probably weren't around in The Fame era, is this whole image she is portraying? This isn't new for her. When I say new, I mean that she is quite literally and obviously, referencing her own early rager years in the club scene of New York. Bringing some kind of amalgamation of pop and rock and stage performance in a way that no one had ever seen before with Lady Starlight by her side and her audeince and parents looking on in terror and wonder at the spectacle that they created. So before you think I am just sucking her **** over her artistic choices, think twice about the 3 years she has put into her inner thoughts and her artistic approach, and about what I have been seeing for the past 8 years.

P.S. ~Andy Warhol knew about stagnation and the immortality of Fame, and the Super Stars are all dead. Time to evolve.

When I was talking about my studies, and the importance of the message, I was talking about the logo, sorry if it was unclear. Nothing you can say could make this a good or bad logo: it's totally empty to me. Sure, the font is nice, and I'm sure it'll work on other format (IF they keep it of course, it tends to change which each release, thanks God) but that's pretty much all. No risk, nothing worth remembering, nothing.
As for the pic, as I ALSO said, it's nice, well shot, all you want. But what do we get from it: a "rocky" image that I find quite cliché. Again, she could surprise us with the meaning of the song and/or the video, to make a strong opposition, but I judge what I have in front of my eyes.
Maybe as you said, she is portraying the old rock stars, rather than wanting to get herself a rock image. But if it's the case, it totally fails imo. And everyone, whether they love it or not, agree on that. 99.99% of the people are assuming the song will be rock, or at least have a rock vibe, because of the cover, and that's pretty much it. Sure, we shouldn't jump to conclusion, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, she could have done something different? Deeper? I don't know. But again I guess I'm not allowed to find it disappointing and have to wait, eh.

You are right, I jumped in after the fame, but I also thought of her burlesque shows with starlight. And you know what, I REALLY hope that she is not referencing that. Not that I don't like it, it was just genius, but what I expect from her, is something brand new. More than her crazy outfits, that's what she's famous for: how she can re-invent herself, and create trends. We got our share of I'm referencing my past works with her applause performance at the VMA, I personally think that shoud be it for now. I mean, of course it was a defying point for her career, but if she can't come up with something brand new when she doesn't have 10 years of career, I'm worry.
BUT AGAIN, this is based on the cover ONLY. We'll get where all this is going after we get the full package. But you can't expect someone to not have an opinion.

PS : I find your comment on Warhol quite funny: it's time to evolve, but it's genius when Gaga is using something old? I mean, of course could just be a reference (and still, I'm not sure AT ALL this is it), but if someone can come up with something new, it's her. I know she reinvented old styles to create her own, but the result was original. Here's it's clearly not.

But what I know, I'm just a student eh? :sis:

I really don't get why fans are so inclined to jump at the throat (I'm not saying this for you, your answer as argument, FOR ONCE) of people who don't like it, or have doubts.
Be assured that even if I don't like the cover this much, I'll pay for see her live more than once and buy the album at least twice. I love her to death, but I also love myself an iconic cover, especially when we are talking about my fave's comeback.

Spoiler

Sorry about the lenght of it, I haven't had a proper night of sleep in two weeks, I'm over tired, so it's probably full of mistakes, sorry :toofunny:

We're just witnessing the weeding out of some 'fans' that want her to always be 'crazy-meat-dress-or-avant-garde-gaga", with top 40 pop bobs.

Please realise, that Lady Gaga is with the likes of Micheal Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Cher, Streisant, etc, and she is in it for LONGEVITY and her true artistic expression.

She has GROWN since her fame monster era, and she is going to write songs with different sensibilities.

Her fanbase demographics will shift to 20+ and I am here for it, because (I don't kiss her ass), but I admire her creativity. My only dissapointment was ARTPOP, but it was not her fault.

Have you realised that each era, except ARTPOP has made a tremendous shift not only in pop music, but in general consciousness in general? She is a meta-pop star. "A rock star musician pretending to be pop", in order to fulfil her propaganda and personal artistic AND political agenda.

I was here for it since the fame, and I am still here for it, more than ever.

Bring the rock gaga, weed out the hype train fans.

One could easily argue that over the last three years Gaga has actually found her MOJO, and it's by not being what she started as.

Watch the first 5 or 6 minutes of this for me. In this moment, she spoke on Fame, in a way, that she hasn't explicitly done in the past. Fame has been a theme for her, and it is a major part of her life as one of the most famous people in the whole world on any given year. When I say that she is doing something new, that doesn't mean she is being a different person, or being a different artist. I rather mean, she is approaching her art differently, with the lens of experience and time and ultimately the three years of thought she had since her last album.

Time is circular in this way, and art follows that cone looping around until it falls back on itself. Era inspire new eras which inspire new eras which are inspired by the first era and so forth, each level becoming a new kind of art in the way that it approaches that art scene through the lens of time and cultural experience. This Gaga is new. This art will be new. And I think, as in the past, whenever it seems like she is doing what she did in the past obviously, she is more translating that image of herself and how she viewed the world, through her new eyes of the present, and that in and out itself is easily said, but rarely able to be guessed at.

Trying to be the Fame Monster, trying to be the thing that is captured when we talk about her, or snap a picture with her in person, or on stage, is the road to insanity and pointless existence. To evolve as a person, she must always honor herself before she honors an image, and the selfless art will come once she enters that frame of mind. Thanks for chatting with me, I will try to be less insulting next time. Don't expect this sort of thing from most of the fans on GGD, it seems you've already realized that haha.

Plain PS: Remain Hyped Please!

I'm way too tired to read it all, I'll do that tomorrow, but be assured, that my only problem is with the cover, and that I'm 100% hyped, and I'm 200% here for the song to actually be rock! Peace!

Yeah, but all that fancy stuff is what made gaga unique

No, her talent and ability to reinvent herself is what makes her unique. That "fancy stuff" was just a byproduct of one her evolutions. Maybe that's not who she is at the moment. So what? She changes constantly and isn't afraid to do it, and that's what makes her stand out from the rest of the pack.

Whispering

No, she has found a different way to express he artistic vision, like she always does.

Some fans, however, are so stuck in the past...they will miss all the fun of something different.

to answer your qestion,I feel like the last 8 years have been nothing but a perfect illusion. Beneath the wigs, costumes, outrageous antics and creative music, there's a very real artist that's wanting to be seen and heard. I feel like this album is going to be very personal and really reflect her song writing and vocal abilities.
