Also they kinda are connected with the next album :sis:

If you check, Paparazzi has the "Dark side" of Fame, how she was on the bottom, the murder and stuff. Then TFM happened.

Alejandro had the Dark vibe and the gay theme in the main concept, then BTW happened.

and even MTN was the "most personal" album and ARTPOP became super close for Gaga and "personal"...

But I don't know what to say about G.U.Y. then nnnnnnnn

I'm not trying to be a smart ass at all, DITD fits into this thread just as much as Alejandro.

A bunch of Dutch filmmakers made it, I still think its the best interpretation of a Gaga MV to date

Here's behind the scenes:

I agree with you OP :D

Especially with the ARTPOP era, G.U.Y. is the only video that was jumpy and colorful and glitzy and fun and more unique words to describe ARTPOP, where as Applause and DWUW were dark-ish (DWUW theme is pretty dark/NSFW)

The last "single" from C2C was I Can't Give You Anything But Love > Perfect Illusion

GUY : Song-wise, GUY is EDM but not overly edm, like swine. There are some parts of the song (touch me verse) that have the "venus" feel to them. I would say GUY is the "core" of the sound of the ARTPOP album. Similarly, the music video is the ARTPOP film, but aside from that there are many ARTPOP elements, combining mythology with the white aesthetic that we associate with ARTPOP. (Also the only video to use the Koons ball )

I just noticed that the last single from each album kind of "represents" the aesthetic, theme and sound of each album. I know this sounds kinda wierd, but hear me out.

TBH, Applause its closer to the concept of ARTPOP than G.U.Y...

by miles...

Also, aesthetically both videos do the same job, the only main difference is that black drop of applause while in GUY was white, but the colors are pretty much the same.

Lyrically, Applause is the core of ARTPOP. The whole concept of the album is clearly there. All of the other songs act like they were born from Applause.

But I like your theory and to some degree it makes sense. Paparazzi (I agree with you on that one). Some people could say The Fame would be a better fit, but Paparazzi really sets the transition and was a great single choice.

The LGBT theme, industrial tone and darkness from Alejandro really goes into BTW Territory. Alejandro is about finding comfort among the LGBT.

Marry the Night and Applause would link way better since MTN was about Gaga rising and Applause is about her peak of fame, power, love for the applause and how she transformed into art in herself (mostly).

Since ARTPOP was based in reversing concepts from Warhol and stuff... I can see Gaga reversing this pattern and make the first single the core of the album. So... Applause and not G.U.Y.

There, your theory works! ahahah

After Applause gaga lives for the applause and the whole "music not the bling" and this fits with her going after Jazz where an applause is something important.

Also... She is now the vessel of Art and LG5 seems to be something more about great music than anything

Maybe ARTPOP was her goodbye to The Fame Machine. She made user of her Fame and showed everyone that she embodied it and now all that it's left is her art cause she is famous AF.

I agree with the OP. Also, I understand that dance in the dark is technically a "single" but I really wouldn't consider it one. It didn't have a promotion era or a video.

Although APPLAUSE was the "theme", GUY was the sound - it was a mixture of EDM (Mary Jane Holland, Donatella, Swine) and Venus

To be fair, applause did have electronic in its instrumental, but that is more "Europop" and not really "EDM", even tho it is technically Electronic Dance Music. EDM is a specific sound tho, bc technically Just Dance and Poker Face are "electronic dance music". If you listen to the Donatella Instrumental, GUY instrumental u can see what EDM is, or listen to Stache by Zedd . (There are other branches like Chainsmokers which is more Pop-EDM).

but basically GUY's instrumental sounds very similar to a combination of Swine Aura Donatella Sexxx Dreams and Venus while Applause's instrumental doesn't really have a sister on ARTPOP
