Why do some of you hate Katy Perry?

I used to stan Katy but once I started stanning Gaga, I realized how... Hmm. I don't know. I don't wanna say she can't sing. Most of the time she really just doesn't try. Gaga is infinitely a better artist but for some reason Katy is noticed way more which upsets me. Why does the GP love someone who puts no attempt into sounding good live, or making amazing music? I like Katy's music but there is a huge margin between hers and Gaga's in terms of how good they are. So I guess jealousy. Gaga deserves more love than any artist in this industry, but her outfits are too weird apparently

And to op: I don't like her personality or music. I agree with others that during OoTB era she was ok. I used to like her song Thinking of you. Then I really think the fame went to her head and she got undeserved success with those next bubblegum songs. And she is not a good performer, I just cannot stand her live voice

I don't 'hate' her but I do find her really bland and uninteresting. I'm not implying that pop singers need to be as theatrical as Gaga to be interesting, but Katy has the image and songs of a Disney star.

Obviously it's working for her, but I just don't dig that. It's off putting. I like a bit of edge.

Her songs are "fun", but let's be honest. She doesn't have a singing talent...
But I h̷a̷t̷e̷ do not like her as a person. She seems to me as very shady, dishonest and sneaky. So that's why I don't like her.

Personally speaking, I am a big fan of Katy Perry. Lady Gaga will always be on top but stanning for Gaga does not exclude rooting for other artists. First things first, Katy writes her own songs, she has a good voice and always sings live. Some singers do not even bother to sing live and get tons of praises for that on this forum There is no denying she is one of the most successful pop artists of this decade. Her last tour was a huge box-office success.  Scoring 9 number one songs on Billboard 100 is quite a feat. Many claim she makes a bubblegum pop and panders to the GP, but many female singers try to do the same thing but yet they fail miserably. Katy's songs are well mastered, executed and pretty relatable. I do think she will try to evolve as an artist and her upcoming effort might portray it. Some of you do your best to write her off after the underperformance of RISE, but at the end of the day her next lead single will be a smash , it is inevitable. She has already left some marks on the history of the pop music scene spawning 5 number one hits from one album. She has her brand songs such as "Dark Horse" , "I Kissed A Girl" , "Roar", "E.T.", "California Gurls","Teenage Dream", "Firework". She may not be many things for you, but she is an extremely successful pop girl and she will continue to stay relevant.

And say what you want but a song like "Roar" or "Dark Horse" are much less basic that the current number one song

Let's be honest, she can't sing. Her songs can be beautiful, fresh, good, but when it comes to singing skills, well, Katy's got none. Her voice is really tragic, she just doesn't deserve all the success she has, especially cuz everyone thinks that she is a good singer just cuz she made some hits. Well, no. It's not about who's better between her and Gaga or whoever else, it's just that if one can't sing one can't sing. She's not the only one to be absolutely overrated tho (Rih-ported ...)

Once upon a time in 2013, Applause and ROAR happened. Two wonderful upbeat songs from two very different pop artists. One was a product of her art and another song a product of the industry.

Lo and behold people chose to celebrate someone who did not have creative input in their songs and cant sing live well. Talent and music did not win, but production and autotune did. All is not well and then the dark times came.

The bashing and hate came towards Gaga, and then I was continuously subjected to the overplaying of ROAR and KP's other hits countless times on the radio, the supermarket, at school, again and again and again despite me feeling bitter and not liking it. It was more psychological and grating like, slow building tension continuously piling up until one day you would reach the threshold and just POP (without the art). I have to admit KP's hits are bops, true, but i hate myself for having contradictory feelings.

Then I saw her live and it was the last straw. I HEARD with my own two EARS she can't SING but she can PERFORM and look all pretty and polished with her smoke and mirrors and tits while reciting a karaoke version of the songs I contiuously heard in radio ---and then I just got turned off really really bad. The rest is history and I lived bitterly ever after.

Ok i just try to get over this now. I like the song RISE. I would respect KP so much more if she continues on the path of RISE by writing songs, being a real musician, and veering away from teeny bopper hits. We all know she wont continue this path so... yeah.
