Her first album was kinda of big in the USA She kinda bought Doo-Wop back to mainstream media with her first three singles, All About That Bass, Lips Are Movin, Dear Future Husband, which all did very well in the USA. She also proved to the world that she's vocally really well, better than Katy and Rihanna (before Anti era), her ballad Like I'm Gonna Lose You was a top 10 hit. Her music videos had a playful late 80's vibe. She was basically a refreshing new artist spreading positive lyrics and themes of female empowerment, so the general public fell in love with her, plus her personality is great. However, her second album is literally a horrible career move, she ditched everything that made her famous in the first place (she still sings good and has a good personality) but she basically revamped her sound and style to that of the 2000's (think parody of Christina's stripped era meets Britney's Britney album). Not only do her new songs sound outdated, they sound rushed and forced, the lyrics are very dreadful, examples would be NO and Me Too, her latest two hits (I honestly think she's doing well this era by building off the momentum of her previous one). Her second album is full of cringe worthy songs. Apparently Troy Carter (her manager/ Gaga's ex manager) wash pushing her for a new image and style so that she doesn't bore the general public. He seems very controlling, no wonder Gaga ditched him. I hope Meghan focuses on the musicality of her third album and instead of trying to reinvent her image, just offer better vocals and better lyrics.
