Brooke Hoegan 1,018
She likes to drink She likes to smoke (tobacco / weed, doesn't matter - every kind of smoke is toxic, carcinogenic and damages vocal cords) Now she decided to put on a fatigue (no, deep "TIHTY" tone isn't her natural one) on her voice for this new album (which also means in all her performances + tour she'll sing like that). I thought she was a little bit wiser. I'm worried - is there any other meaning to "husky" than that described in this video or is this how it's gonna be ? Kermit 15,807
I want Gaga to do screamo. “For me, insanity is super sanity. The normal is psychotic. Normal means lack of imagination, lack of creativity.” ― Jean Dubuffet

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Miley 5,006
I'm a speech-pathologist, and one of my frields are vocal problems/voice treatment. It's sometimes better to be "husky", than being high-pitched. Dope hurts her vocal cords while til it happens to you don't. And I think that's good she's using that voice. And yes sadly smoking/drinking alcohol damages her vocal cords. For LG5 it's most likely she'll use the Bad Romance (jazz live version) vocals. I think she's introducing us to that, hence the performances.
Harry 26,836
It's amazing how extra everyone on here is over the tiniest of throwaway comments made by people around Gaga. I wouldn't worry... Gaga is a well trained vocalist and certainly has experts that she hires to make sure her voice remains pristine. Yes there are ways to sing in a raspy tone that are unhealthy and put strain on the voice, but it's also possible to do it completely naturally and healthily. We haven't even heard it yet. Relax... mee 381
At C2C live performance at Rose Theater, there is a dvd out, Gaga sung clear and very high like at Nature Boy, and then husky and clear like on Firefly. So i think she can sing these days in these color in a natural way ( i mean without alcohol and stuff ) Don't forget, it was the same concert
REALITY 76,752
Gaga knows what's best for her. That doesn't necessarily mean that she'll do it, because it's been pretty obvious that she smokes. However, she's not ignorant. She knows how to keep her voice in check, and she knows how to maintain it. Plus, she's incredible when it comes to vocal technique. She knows what she can/cannot take. What the video states is that when you are not born with that "color" to your voice and you strain it to achieve a huskiness, you end up ruining your vocal cords and even your natural voice is ruined when you are older. Just like many rock man damaged their voices and now can't sing anymore.

Sam Dey 1,847
it's not that smoking and drinking maybe a few times a week damages her vocal cords so hard that her voice sounds husky besides it's sexy so smoke on gags smoke on
Lassex 1,169
Gaga doesn't sing with a ''raspy'' voice. The TIHTY voice is just a mixture of low notes and too much (fake) vibrato. I don't think that will damage her vocal chords.

And Gaga strains a lot when she tries to do it, I don't remember which performance was that (I think it was a TIHTY one) but I once saw veins popping out on her throat like she was lifting weights or smth
