15jocart 2,305
I noticed that this forum has some weird dislike for "slow songs" (not just from Gaga, but in general). I really don't understand this--Gaga has only 7 (yes, 7) released ballads in her discography: Brown Eyes, Speechless, Yoü and I, Dope, Gypsy, and Til It Happens to You. (There are a few beautiful unreleased ballads but they don't count towards this discussion). All of Gaga's with the exception for TIHTY are rock ballads (Gypsy is a weird pop-influenced-by-rock combo) and they can all technically be classified as power ballads. Personally, my favorite is Yoü and I (my favorite overall Gaga song), but Dope is the best in terms of being a ballad (don't @ me). Why do people not want more ballads from Gaga? It's like they hear that LG5 will have ballads and that means it won't have "bops" or danceable music. It can have both. And I'm hoping that LG5 has more than just the usual token ballad that Gaga includes on albums. We have yet to see Gaga deliver something like any of these: The world now knows that Gaga can sing, but she has yet to have an iconic ballad, her own "Hello" or "Halo" or even a "Stay" (which is a great song). I really hope for a stripped-down ballad from Gaga, something very calming and emotional (and clearly enunciated, @ Dope @ TIHTY). What do you think Gaga should do for ballads on LG5? Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you
URFUTUREFAV 1,292
that song about her aunt could be it.... I'm looking forward to listening to it. iHeart Radio people really hyped the **** out of that song People hate what they don't understand.
weed 73,773
I feel like I hate dope, because everyone hates dope, but when I really think about the song it's not THAT bad and I love ballads! I'd totally be here for ballads on LG5, just less dark than Gaga's previous? Not necessarily in lyrics but vibe
DrewStevens 5,249
I don't know. For me it always depends of the execution. I like I Wanna Be With You, but I hate Dope.
Music 15,215
i've noticed it too.. i absolutely love piano-driven ballads and i'm hoping for a handful on LG5. i think stanning artists like Adele and Sia, it's obvious that Gaga's ballads seem lacklustre but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement! as long as they are honest, personal and relatable, there is no reason why they would go wrong or not fit well in her album. as an overall album though, i'd love for the album to be a journey, from start to end (Beyoncé's Lemonade is the perfect example of an unfolding story of a collapsing relationship, from it's hardships to triumphs, eventually concluding in a "full circle"). hence, exploring different sounds (ballads to bops), will be interesting; i hope the album will be something genuine and musically/lyrically complex like 21. nevertheless, we know Gaga can deliver an outstanding body of work, she just needs to trust in her artistry! Super Natural 1,481
I like good ballads that are catchy and make sense. None of Gaga's ballads are like that. Hope it changes.
Vergil 2,296
I don't like the kind of ballads like Gypsy or TIHTY. Everything else Gaga has done with the piano I loved it but I prefer LG5 with 12 - 13 bops and 2 - 3 ballads. And it's not that I hate ballads but I don't think I could like a Gaga album with more ballads than "bops".

OT: I don't hate her ballads, I just prefer her other songs more. And also, this needs stressing out, I like Dope Flyin' like a 1000 Doves

Nirvana 2,712
I've noticed this too, but I absolutely love her ballads and especially freaking love Speechless. It's in my top 5 Gaga songs. Gets me in tears and it's a lyrical masterpiece. Who knows if it had been one of her most memorable hits if gotten a single treatment? Maybe people are afraid of ballads and "slow" songs, and fear that the whole album is like that, or that there would not be as much choreo. Even though that wouldn't mean there isn't any "bops". I agree that she needs her own "Imagine" or "Heal the World" (in regards of her instagram posts and comments about peace and kindness) and/or epic relatable love ballad that showcases her vocal talent. I'm also looking forward for song about her aunt too, wish it will be on the album!
Nirvana 2,712
And yeah, about Dope I think the issue to fans about the song is the vocals (even though I find them fitting for the song) and that it doesn't seem to fit to ARTPOP's vibe as "too depressing" (though the whole album is actually quite dark when you dig it a bit). I do like Dope, it's production is great (Rick Rubin's work) I listened to it when I was in a very dark place mentally and it hit me home.
Noam Zioni 1,196
Paradise will be it, I believe I just don't know if she wants to release it as a single, as it's a very personal song
MaryJaneHolland 77,348
I was not waiting 3 years for an album full of slow ass songs 1-2 (maaaaybe 3) ballads would be okay, but more than that..... No, thanks
VOLANTIS 16,404
I love all her ballads so I'm definitely here for it. I'll lift you 3 inches off the ground and drag you to a meter and a half
