yASSsss 35,510
During an interview with Yahoo Music Simmons talked about the band’s latest release, why they may never release a follow-up album to 2012’s Monster, why Prince’s death wasn’t “sad” and how Lady Gaga may be the last great hope for a fizzling rock scene. I said an incendiary thing a while back that really pissed off rock fans. But I see Lady Gaga as the only rock star of the last few years. What I mean by that is if she ditched the disco boys and the poles and the pop tracks, she really does have the musical goods and stage presence — outrageous kind of stuff — to be a kind of a female Elton [John]. In the days when he was playing stadiums, Elton would come out dressed as a duck, or whatever, and it was cool rock stuff. I’d like to see Gaga with a rock band. She’s made her fortune in the disco world. I’m not a fan of that stuff. I think it’s manufactured. It’s done well. It’s not my taste. I’d love to see he with two guitars, drums, and bass in back of her. I think she would rock it. But I’ve also been crucified for saying rock is dead. https://www.yahoo.com/music/gene-simmons-controversial-prince-comments-000000108.html Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine
weed 73,496
Slay me King I love how Gaga just befriends and garners the respect of so many legends! You know she's legit when some of the biggest musicians ever praise her
Edonis 28,950
I don't like how he says "disco boys" as if it's some sort of low brow thing. It comes across as low key homophobic to me. But congrats to Gaga for befriending so many legends!

Edonis 28,950
Just now, Miky said: did you come straight from tumblr? lol No darling, the rock community has looked down on disco for years and was routinely the butt end of jokes because disco is/was very popular in the gay community. I'm not saying he is homophobic (because he's not) but that comment gives me reminders of the kind of stuff people would say to men who enjoyed disco music

somnambulist 1,526
Eh, I mean he literally says "it's just not my thing" and he's entitled to like whatever and dislike whatever, but I'm glad gaga started in pop, now I'm excited to see where her wings take her. Killa 17,399
Just keep talking about her, though i won't comment his stances in many aspects, it's all just too wrong, the kind of society he represents just ain't my thing. And he does most of it without even understanding what he's doing.

But Gaga's pop music has never been something to criticize for being of low quality. To write off a whole genre like Gene Simmons is doing just irks me. There's always something for everyone in any genre regardless of what you think of it as a whole. I think that's what Gaga meant by that statement as well, in that pop music cannot be written off as being low quality just because it's called "pop music". SKANK 14,288
41 minutes ago, Miky said: did you come straight from tumblr? lol The Disco Sucks movement of the late 70's had obvious racist and homophobic undertones. That isn't some Social Justice Warrior revisionist history, it's the reality of how disco died. When Gene uses the expression "disco boys" disparagingly he is tapping directly into the homophobic language that had people literally burning and steam rolling Sylvester records.
