The 2013 MTV performance was iconic, everybody praised her...

I believe Gaga even referenced not being able to do what she wanted at the VMAs once? 

If then was real I dont blame MTV, they know whats good for the show + Gaga didnt do anything like that even on artRave

it's obvious Gaga's original intent for the artRAVE was never to be as bubblegum as it became. The all white, abstract imagery fitted the artRAVE album release, and the Jimmy Fallon performance. 

The outfit she wore for ARTPOP at the release party is eerily similar to the original dancer outfit concepts shown for the VMA performance, too. 

And apparently they censored not because it was too controversial but because they wanted Miley to be the center of attention. Gaga opened the show, then it immediately went to a lackluster, yet big budget performance from Miley
