Swan Heart 7,382
I totally get you. Gaga is definitely different from the rest of the pop girls. After Gaga came, I had a phase where I felt my taste became way too mainstream actually. I enjoyed Britney's Into The Zone/Blackout album and so on. At first I thought I was just expanding my horizons but it really wasn't that. Then I realized I was paying too much attention to the mainstream world and it was.. almost draining me, really That's the way it felt. It never felt like that with Gaga. I came out of it though. I still enjoy a good pop tune. Carly Rae jepsen's Emotion album is a fantastic pop record. Also Robyn! Damn that gal is so good. Now I'm really into FKA Twigs and Bowie (you can argue that he had some pop elements going on here and there but let's not, he's from another league). Spoiler btw Your taste is fantastic. I've been really getting into lykke li the past few days. So good. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be. yxi 4,999
I wish Gaga was making more interesting music... She is too talented to keep making music for teeny boppers who just want her to slay the charts. I think she's heading in the right direction by working with Mark Ronson & Kevin Parker, i am expecting great things from this new album

Not really. There are a lot of successful people in the music industry because of their appearance and appeal to teens.

Those stars tend to fade within like 10 years.

Swan Heart 7,382
Also about The Fame, I've rediscovered it. The whole Fame era and every little detail about it.. You know.. the tea cup, Candy Warhol, the acoustic performances, the ironizing of pop culture, the embracing of it in this really morbid way, the "Blonde popstar", Paparazzi.. These are probably one of the best things that happened to modern music in my opinion. Pure gold. The whole thing. If Andy Warhol was a musician, that would be it. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Perry and Swift did Country. Beyonce made some Pop deviations. Gaga did everything.

Those 5 combined also make up a significant amount of the revenue for the big music companies and certainly between the 5 of them decide the direction of the whole industry. They're called icons for a reason. They represent the industry.
DiscoStyx 3,355
@Lippoutou: read the OP Even if I mainly listen to pop music, I 100% agree on the fact that other popstars are pretty boring, their music is not very good and not creative. I listen to other genre / underground artists too! And I love some of the names you mentioned (Bet For Lashes, Lykke Li...) cause of death: gaga singing along perfect illusion on BBC Radio

If you like Bat for Lashes & Lykke Li - do yourself a favor and fall in love with Kyrstyn Pixton http://kyrstynsong.com/album/embyrs & ANML (Formerly known as Lila Rose): I know both of these artists personally, they are both friends of mine and are INCREDIBLE. Slayer 9,227
I'm going off pop music as well tbh. But I think it's just because it's generally so bad right now. I loved pop music from 2008 to around 2012/3 but recently it's just got worse and worse IMO, and I'm finding I'm listening more to classic rock, heavy metal and indie artists. I'm eagerly awaiting LG5 but tbh I'm not going to mask my slight disappointment that it's going to be a dancefloor anthem with backing dancers. I was hoping for something a bit more left-field, but maybe I was just expecting too much from her. She is a pop star after all. I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!
