Daenerys

I've never been as crushed as I am now. The pushback is imminent and I want to curl up in a ball and die. :ohno:

It would be up for illegal download in less than an hour if she did an exclusive it would be illegally dowloaded by so many people and damage her sales

And it would be up for illegal download potentially an entire week (or more) before the release if it was done traditionally... Just look at Glory this past week. An album is ALWAYS going to be available illegally at some point, no exceptions. If someone intends to buy an album, 9/10 times they will. Particularly in the first week or so. 25 leaked before it's official release and still did 3 million. Yes it's Adele so it will always be huge, but the point remains.

You think it's better for the album to leak early from CD shipments etc than it is to remain unheard until the official release?

The "exclusive" was more than just about the music, and ironically would have been pretty amazing for fans when it came to developing/delivering content and experiences. Y'know, that thing Gaga wanted to do with ARTPOP and couldn't? People seem to be forgetting that Apple really supports the artists that choose to sign an exclusive deal with them. This would have meant regular promo on the store's front page and Beats 1, possible exclusive concerts -- similar to what The 1975 did earlier this year, and so much more.

Here's hoping they can find a way to make it work without the need for an exclusive streaming window for the single/album.

This. People seem to forget this was beneficial in so many way ..

You guys should read this new article on Billboard ! You'll understand everything !

So what do you get when you partner with Apple Music, which boasts 15 million paid subscribers? A hefty advance, a dedicated marketing spend, premium placement atop the iTunes store, maybe a TV commercial and a Beats Radio show in addition to the less immediately tangible bonuses like additional paid media connected to the release, global exposure and barters that might incorporate social media campaigns. Says one insider familiar with Apple’s positioning: “They’ll literally throw everything they can at it. You can’t get to No. 1 on Spotify alone.”

Oh for crying out loud. Is it too much to ask to have a normal, smooth running album cycle. Can we not have a single or two followed by an album that is available to BUY to anyone who wants it, without any of this streaming exclusive bullsh!t. It's such a slap in the face to the fans.

What makes exclusives even more infuriating for me, is that the majority of the fanbase won't have access to the music, some of them, like me refuse to pay for that crap, are old school and like to actually buy music. But the people who are paying for the service, the majority of whom probably don't give a sh!t about Gaga, do have access to her music!

So we lose out, just because we don't believe in paying for Jay-Z, Apple or whoevers sh!tty service.  :fthis::fthis::fthis:

Glory leaked because a store in Mexico received the CDs and put them out early (which has happened in a store I worked in for a video game before by mistake)

EDIT: I just saw you mentioned the early shipment etc so nvm

But it remains to be seen whether other releases upcoming for Universal might become a point of contention as new albums are lined up for the fourth quarter -- one to watch: Interscope artist Lady Gaga -- or whether competitors Sony, which has seen successful launches with exclusives by Future and DJ Khaled, and Warner Music Group (which, on a group level, doesn't have a unified stance on streaming) will follow along. “It’s a pivotal time for all labels again,” says a high-ranking executive. “Maybe the most important sea-change since Napster.”

So basically we don't know if Gaga's deal is still happening since they already have a contract, right?

But with the apple music deal, it could be huge for gaga. I'm lowkey happy tho, because now streaming can get better.

Is this ARTPOP era all over again? :awkney:

If it was we would be talking about a leak.

If this has a negative effect on the era I hope Gaga decides to sue UMG tbh, if this is gonna become a mess it better be one where she leaves that shithole with a bang

Yes. Endless (the visual album) was negotiated as Frank's final release on Def Jam, which is owned by Universal. What they didn't know is that he set up his own independent label on the side and secretly prepared the release of Blonde. Somehow Apple were in on both projects without anyone at Universal hearing about it.

So the minute Endless came out, Frank was free of his contract with them and essentially unsigned. But he released Blonde the next day on his own with the help of Apple. Universal are now pissed that he did that because he basically held the "proper" album from them and put it out on his own.

I know that, and that's my point. It happens all the time with albums that get released traditionally because the CDs can (and normally do) end up in the hands of someone who uploads it early.
