Why are you so sure about it? Not even We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus in 2013 reached the top spot after getting the most talked about performance of the night.

It was number 2 several weeks, Roar was number one the week of the show and it was the closing number of the show.

Exactly. She was #2 already even before the VMAs. It didn't got a guaranteed #1 because of her performance as the other user is stating.

Because Katy got a bigger VMAs sales boost and her song went number one.

Also, we can't ignore the fact that her VMA performance was hugely responsible for her comeback to major media attention.

Gaga will get overshadowed if she goes, which will hurt the whole era's PR and framing by the media. She has to be the BIGGEST thing in everything she does, especially at the beginning of the era in order for the media to refrain from calling her a flop. Being basically ignored after the VMAs would be enough for the whole era to flop.

Besides, she's releasing quite some time after the VMAs anyways. There will be enough other opportunities come September.

And last but not least, releasing the single later (late September) would mean going into the holidays season with more momentum. The lead single will probably still be doing well by Black Friday, while the second single will bring in those December sales. ARTPOP, with an August release, had lost most of its momentum by the end of November - especially in Europe, Australia and Japan.

Dear friend(s)…Lady Gaga doesn't need the VMAs to be in top when she has attended/perform at the following events THIS year: Golden Globes, Grammys, Oscars (for the 2nd year in a row).

My point is that VMAs are simply a celebration of futility and trash celebrity culture + don't match w/ Gaga's artistic goal or message.

Oh gosh stop it with that nonsense.

Were talking about Lady Gaga, the Lady Gaga, stop acting like she's some sort of goddess. She's a pop singer, even though she's in her own box doesn't mean that her artistic goal and message is better or higher than the other pop singers.

Okay first let me ask you

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

You think that VMAS don't deserve Gaga just cuz they didn't let her to do the original performance in 2013?

I hate to break it to you but she needs award shows like VMAS if she wants to be on top again.

You can say whatever you want but she cant do this without promotion like VMAS.

''she is now on the higher level that VMAS'' sorry but she is not.

I love Gaga

Im little monster since 2010 and I cant stand people who are unrealistic (most of them are 'new little monsters' since 2013 2014)

+ beyonce who is 10000000000000000 times bigger that gaga NOW is performing at the vmas

my dear little monsters you are MAKING  new liza minnelli and barbra streisand of lady gaga with that oscars and golden globe ****

Preach sis:applause:

we dont have to conform to everything that gaga does and pretend that we love it

this thread is a revolution, its what I have been trying to achieve but little delusionals stopped me every single time! Tell em!

That's what I think, except that a lot of fans here live in the past and think she's always going to repeat herself. They always want another Paparazzi/Poker Face VMA moment and it's not going to happen.

The VMAs have always been such a tacky show and this year is not an exception. They always want controversy and this year it's obviously going to be all about Queen Beyoncé, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift and maybe even Drake and Rihanna (as I've said in other posts).

Gaga is not an artist that I like to see attend these shows because these last couple of years we've seen what her talent can do. We've seen her at the Oscars, the Grammys, Golden Globes, many other important moments like the album she made with a jazz legend. She's really on another level right now, she doesn't need to grab attention from snapchat teenagers who are going to watch this year's VMAs for Justin Bieber and all of those current popstars.

If she doesn't attend the show this year, it wouldn't be the worst thing.

I don't understand why the general tone throughout this thread is so aggressive and hostile :awkney: We're talking about the VMAs everyone needs to calm down :awkney:

The tone should have been even more agressive

Its because you and other members are trying to shut down and stop other members to have their own opinions

not every member has to love every single thing that gaga does and conform to everything she does to be liked here

Yes, they've been meh for a while, but the VMAs are still certainly an event whether we like it or not.

At the same time, why do we want her to perform and promote a song that won't be for sale until (possibly) the middle of next month? What exactly is the benefit of that?

Unless someone does something hugely outrageously crazy or trashy, the hype from performances die down after a day.

So, essentially...you guys want her to 1.) perform a song no one can buy, and 2.) that could possibly get lost in the crowd of Rihanna/Beyonce/Britney/whoever else? That would be a huge waste of hype IMO.

And lets not forget the whole Swinefest experience where people were spoiled by their first listens to the live versions of the songs and in result didn't care for the studio tracks in comparison.

Regardless of opinions, the VMAs messed up the kickoff to Gaga's ARTPOP era. The original concept for Applause would likely be the most talked about performance that year, but they censored it in favor of other artists.

In order to prevent the same issue, Gaga should not perform this year. However, come next year and LG5 is indeed a massive success, then Gaga will have the whole show at her feet. It's how the industry works.

Paparazzi VMA performance is actually the reason why I became a fan. It was so powerful and unique and dark without being TOO MUCH like what she had planned for the Applause performance (according to rumors). I really think that around BTW era up until ARTPOP beginning she wanted to do too crazy things and it put many people off. I love ARTPOP and The Fame and the beginning of The Fame Monster, but that weird **** in between in not my taste.

That is still one of the most iconic moments of pop history, I will never forget someone saying right after the performance "this is the moment you witness the birth of a superstar like madonna or michael jackson"

BEST PERFORMANCE EVER!!!
