Shadow 6,639
She hates the truth, but the truth won't leave her in the form of pain, so she expresses it like filling holes in memory with pretty colors. People hate the truth too, because they want that same perfect illusion even if it's all dressed up, but a blatant lie. Everyone lies so much, though they say they want the truth. Selective truths, half truths, and little white lies make up the greater human farce, so we escape with familiar lies we know, thus the lie becomes our truth like a reverse Warholian experience. Nicely noted. Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
Ambrosia 3,775
Oh dear, I'm going to be very unpopular here but I agree with what a couple other users stated. I'm not trying to discount the OP at all - I think that user made some great connections and it sounds very rational. It's refreshing to read threads like these again. However like was mentioned - I hope it's not about her being concerned about what others think. We have that in our own lives to contend with as I'm sure Gaga has to contend with it as well, but as a pop music concept, it's just not necessary. Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others. -Socrates

I agree I hope it's more of a very deep, not explicit way of reading into the work. The way The Fame and The Fame Monster were, you could tak eit as base-level shallow pop, or you could pull out all of these larger themes if you wanted to. I am pretty sure it will be like that - its already being desccribed as about a relationship, whereas before with ARTPOP & BTW, media would talk about how the song reflect Gaga's life, etc. It was a little too up front for what people wanted. I think that's another way to look at the title Perfect Illusion - she's going back to the same themes, but making it perfectly hidden in lyrics about a regular relationship. I hope so - what you theorized sounds really plausible and exciting. I really like the way you express your ideas - - and I will be looking forward to more of your thoughts as the new music is released. Killa 17,758
Yes, it surely is this, and it's good thing that she wraps up the whole Gaga personna discussion or just adds so much more layers that we have no way to find the trail again. It seems that she'll use her love life as a way to convey the message, making it more relatable. It also gives the vibe that she's been stripped of all the gimmicks, but that's just an illusion. She got herself more covered than in any bizarre ARTPOP costume. People are just that easy to fool, that's straight up FameGa thinking. It might be the anthesis of ARTPOP as much as a complement of it.

With ARTPOP it was so personal, so matter of fact. All the flaws were on display. I think ARTPOP was a rebellion. With this, she seems to be taking what she learned to really make everyone think about her original ideas about fame, as well as why she got the reaction she did when she laid everything out with ARTPOP. maybe...more of an undercover rebellion. Like "this is what you want? Look how ****ed up that is" That would be amazing anyway. I don't know if there's anything to back that up yet lol

I don't know if there's anything to back that up yet lol But ARTPOP isn't real rebellion, we disagree in that point. For me ARTPOP is a freak of nature born from a hate for herself and her lack of freedom. A very loud scream, that is being muffled in form of a song. It's an absolute cage, and she screams at all directions but really no one is listening. She didn't wanted to rebel, it's just like you're having a phase in which you have multiple partners and maybe try drugs etc but in the world of a popstar. When she just wants love. An attention freak manifesto.
