This is such good timing (at last!). Britney's the only one who's announced a new album recently and it's this month anyway. There really is no competition in September, which is unusual but great. This is a great time for Gaga to release a new single and let it take centre stage and breathe. With any luck, Katy won't be releasing any time soon as she's using Rise as part of a promo campaign for Hilary's bid for president, which means she'll have to keep this song going for a while and she'll need a gap after it before her first lead single. For once, Gaga's going to jump in front of her with the single release and hopefully the album too, and Katy released hers earlier than Gaga at that, so Gaga's made her album faster! Beyonce won't be releasing this year, Rihanna's already released, Taylor is confirmed to be on a break (she'd have released about now if she was going to) and all the other smaller names like Meghan, Ariana, etc. have already released an album this year. Adele will be no competition as her album nears a year old. As for male artists, there's no way Justin will be releasing, Ed's on a break, 1D are on a break (Harry won't release solo this year), Bruno supposedly isn't releasing until next year. Unless a new name comes up that has unexpected success, releasing for Gaga this year is going to be the safest its ever been.

It feels so good to finally hear an official announcement. I'm relieved that she's not doing a surprise release album, giving us everything in one go. At this point in career, that would not work out well for her and I hate getting a whole era over in one fell swoop anyway. A properly released single out pre-album is what she needs to get the public used to the sound of her on the radio again and will give them time to let them take her back to their hearts again. Having a good performing single pre-album is still the best formula for album success. It's the most common formula for a reason.
