Today marks 13 years since 2003 blackout

Today is the 13th anniversary of the northeast blackout. Almost 50 Million people lost power in eastern  USA and Canada at 4:10pm August 14, 2003. For many the blackout remained in effect from 3 days to a week.

I have vivid images in my head of watching business men and women walk home from work over the bridges in NYC

 

That map is odd though because i lived in Connecticut and I was watching the news, we still had power

I was 3 so I remember nothing

I was on vacation to South Carolina with my aunt and uncle during this 

I remember other family members and friends up here in New York were jealous I was away for it

I do remember! I was 7, in Dallas, and I was at my mom's room and we were watching tv, we had just called our family at Monterrey, Mexico and we were talking about how things had changed there (or here, since this is were I live now)

I was three, so I only have a vague memory of it. I remember that it was supposed to be a big deal, but I didn't care much because I was living my three-year old life and I was doing whatever you do at three years old.

I think I was like 7  I was on the computer at my aunt's house when the power went out. The screen just went black and I thought I broke it 

My uncle refused to drive me home because the traffic lights weren't working so I slept over. We had PB&J's and celery sticks for dinner and slept in the basement that night to stay cool.

I was 5 years old and was in my mom's room watching t.v and it shut off. Then we went over to my grandma's house, even though she had no power, every night cause that's where all my aunts and uncles were. We'd all sit outside on the patio with blankets on us and tell stories and jokes while staring at the stars. Looking back the blackout brought my family closer together and has become one of our favourite memories lol

I was 9 at the time. We were in Manhattan for the day (I'm from Long Island) and were stranded there the entire night since there was no way out. We slept on the street with hundreds of other people all night. One of the worst days of my life. I'll never forget it.
