I think it all depends on the quality of the songs.  

Both Gaga and Katy Perry built their careers as caricatures to an extent. Katy Perry had her Betty Boop shtick and cartoony outfits, and Gaga was avant garde and 'weird'. But after ARTPOP and the latter half of PRISM's campaign, I think both girls realised they needed to reinvent themselves. Neither can coast to the top spot with a mediocre song anymore. Their names don't have the power they used to have. So their success will entirely depend on the quality of the music. 

I mean, look at Beyonce and Kanye. They're not big in the singles charts, but they make big numbers with their albums and tours because the music is decent and the critics adore it. Gaga should model her eras on the likes of them and not try to keep up with the singles charts. Streaming has destroyed the singles charts anyway so it hardly matters anymore.

Even if LG5 and KP4 were release with a six month time difference, they will still say 'Katy/Gaga, who was outsold by their co-pop star Gaga/Katy..' so who gives a **** at this stage.

Do I think Gaga with any album can sell 20 million than Katy ever could, sure, I believe she can do anything. Do I think it's likely, not really.

Having said that, LG has, over the past 2 years, accumulated more fans from all types of music demographics, whereas Katy's success seems to be dwindling so who the **** knows.
