We should advise LGBT individuals to avoid these areas, for obvious reasons, but when they are prosecuted under these immoral laws or even killed, our first thought cannot be "why were they there in the first place." Especially in an advanced civilized city like Dubai in this instance.

I get what you mean. You understand why I'm touchy about this subject. You might be outraged by this, but on top of this I feel ashamed and like I hold responsibility for this disgusting behavior.

It would have been wise to brush up on the law beforehand like you would with any country however it doesn't change the fact that they're clearly dated and in need of some serious evaluating. Despite this the law is there in place and if you choose to travel to such countries with these laws you cannot expect to be treated differently. Many places in the UAE class public displays of affection as a punishable offence so you would respect and refrain from doing so. It's a similar principle. Morals aren't synonymous with law. Whether Westerners agree is irrespective. It's a countries law. 

I imagine, due to her status, she will return home soon however I hope this gives her the motivation to use her voice to help encourage a wider discussion.

The world isn't all ~safe spaces~ and you have to protect yourself even if that means you can't go somewhere you might wanna go.  Because the world isn't fair.  I'm not saying she's wrong for going there, or that Dubai is right for functioning like that, I'm just questioning why she'd want to take that kind of risk.  Clearly, its not been worth it so far 

I agree. It's nothing like a rape victim dressing proactive. It's more like a rape victim knowingly going into a room full of rapist. Why put yourself in that sitution. I'm gay and I wanna travel the world but there are some places I just will not go. Not even for safety reason but for the fact that I don't wanna be somewhere where I am unwanted or just tolerated. I get enough of that here in America.

I think you're confusing sex and gender. 

Sex is biological however gender is fluid and is a construct of society; masculine and feminine.

Obviously, lol. I know that humans made up these terms to easily categorize things and have a reasoning. But at the end of the day, science is science. What humans have decided to call "males" have xy chromosomes, and what they have decided to call "females" have xx chromosomes, which make the two different. So one is one thing and one is another. The one thing has certain characteristics and the other has others. Hm how could I make this easier? Oh ****.

I can tell my views are going to be a minority on here. So I won't say much. But I will say this. I've learned the hard way that we cannot create a physical utopian society. We have to be realistic when approaching issues such as this.

And this is ok, as long as defining your gender goes you are free to use whatever criterias. BUT you don't get to define it for other people. If she says she's a woman and the law has no issues with it it's really not your place to do.
