Gigi Gorgeous, a transgender model and Kylie Jenner's BFF, is being detained at the Dubai airport because she used to be a man.

Gigi, who became famous for documenting her transition on social media, tells TMZ she was stopped at Immigration. She says the immigration officer said, "I was told you are transgender. You cannot come into the country."

Gigi was born Gregory Lazzarato, but says her passport has been updated since she transitioned ... it now reads "Gigi Loren."

Airport police have a different story. They say the passport describes her as male and the passport photo shows Gigi as a male. Gigi tells us that's simply not true.

We did some checking ... in Dubai the "imitation of women by men" is illegal, and violators face up to a year in jail.

She says they still have her passport, and she's trying to get out of the country.

UPDATE: She was released:

why would a trans person go to the middle east to begin with

that's the first thing that came to your mind with this? :saladga:

that's parallel to blaming a rape victim for dressing provocatively.

Maybe they don't wanna feel the world is cut off to them? Maybe business brought her there? A bit of compassion wouldn't kill you

How's that remotely the same thing?  It's clear and obvious that the Middle East has its own backward ass way of doing things, and the debate on whether that's right or wrong (spoilers: its wrong) is for another thread.  But like, you assume great risk as an LGBT person going to a country specifically not safe for LGBT people, so my only thought is why put yourself in the way of that risk to begin with?

Do you walk out into a gun range and stand in front of the target?  No, because you know better.

The world isn't all ~safe spaces~ and you have to protect yourself even if that means you can't go somewhere you might wanna go.  Because the world isn't fair.  I'm not saying she's wrong for going there, or that Dubai is right for functioning like that, I'm just questioning why she'd want to take that kind of risk.  Clearly, its not been worth it so far

Or maybe she could've been informed she would not be welcome before hand?

But that airline sure took her money.

Look, I know where you are coming from. I don't disagree. It just looks like you are being a little bit too smarty pants on a sensitive issue. But hey! Freedom of speech, say whatever u want

You're implying that Gigi asked for this by even going there in the first place - that is the whole basis of the 'rape victim asked for it by dressing provocatively' argument.

Was it unwise? Sure...but this is in NO way her fault, and I Implore you to condemn the actions of these airport officials before anything else.

Shipper

I hope this is all fixed and she gets to come home soon.

I have to say, Dubai is GORGEOUS. I dont blame her for wanting to go there. It's like Vegas ( prettier, cleaner and less touristy. Just google images and you will see) and have very strict rules.

I'm more concerned on why she was held by the immigration if her passport has a female name on it. This means they were curious enough to check her previous passport's name and found the gender is male.

This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.
