Yeah, the only reason I knew he was white until now was because I heard another rapper refer to him as a white rapper. Based on his voice alone, I would totally have thought he was black. He lives in Oakland, California, apparently. Maybe he's been surrounded by a lot of black people, so he's taken on their accent? You tend to find that white people (though it just seems to be men, oddly enough) who grow up in areas with a large black population tend to have a distinctly black tone to their voice to the point where, if you closed your eyes, you would think they're black. I mean, in the UK, you frequently get white men in many areas of London speaking in a very deep tone that could be mistaken for black because of what they grew up with (and if you hear the voice before you see the face, it can be a real surprise!) I remember Eminem said that when he started out, people thought he was faking a black accent and he just said no, growing up in a heavily black populated part of Detroit, this is just how he spoke. Though I certainly wouldn't blame any white rapper for putting on an accent as white rappers still struggle to be accepted. Everyone bashes Iggy for putting on a Southern accent but come on, you know she'd be bashed even worse if she sounded Australian! When it comes to rap, people want to hear one of two accents - black American or black British. Everything else is just laughed at and can't make it on a world scale. It's a shame.

Girl I'm not even gonna lie, when he showed up in the music video, I was seriously confused as to why Macklemore wasn't credited in the title.
