Lion Heart 15,041
A suburban Baltimore woman who posted social media video of a 5-year-old boy during an hours-long standoff with police was shot dead by officers Monday, according to local law enforcement and news reports. The boy, believed to be her son, was injured, but is expected to survive. The Baltimore County Police Department said in a statement that Korryn Gaines, 23, pointed a gun at officers serving arrest warrants at her Randallstown apartment. She was then shot and killed by the officers. Police said they could not immediately determine whether the boy was shot by Gaines or the officers. According to Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson, three officers went to Gaines’ apartment at about 9:20 a.m. to serve arrest warrants on her and a man. Gaines was wanted for failing to appear in court on traffic charges dating from a stop in March "and numerous other traffic offenses," according to Johnson. A few minutes later, an officer got a key from the landlord and opened the apartment after no one responded to repeated knocks, the police statement said. The officer saw Gaines sitting on the floor, pointing a long gun at him, police said. The officers retreated to the hallway, and a man ran from the apartment with a 1-year-old boy, authorities said. That man was arrested. For the next several hours, according to NBC News, officers attempted to negotiate with Gaines, who repeatedly pointed her gun at officers and made threatening remarks, police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said. During this time, Gaines apparently took a video of her and the boy talking about the standoff. The video was posted on social media. At about 3 p.m., police said, Gaines pointed the gun directly at an officer, saying, “If you don’t leave, I’m going to kill you.” That’s when an officer shot at the woman, police said, and Gaines fired two shots. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2016/08/02/police-officers-kill-armed-woman-apartment-boy-wounded/87945298/ ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀

Luiz 4,253
if she really had a gun and pointed it at police while her child was in the room then holy **** what a horrific ****ing parent. i dont care how wrong you think the police are in taking you to jail, you dont have to think of what a traumatizing experience you're about to put your child through dont you? put the gun down and go to jail. what a horrible experience for the little guy I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. Knife 7,079
I have zero sympathy to the mother in this situation. None. You're going to be served an arrest warrant over traffic violations, so you decide to escalate the situation with the threat of murder while your child is with you in the line of fire? lego 44,165
She probably wouldn't be killed if she was white Why the cop looks like soldier in that video? Do they send SWAT team to arrest people for traffic violation? How do we know police version of the story is even true? You are all so quick to judge her. Brian Ryan 1,468
I pray for that child. The police were just doing their job. I don't know how on Earth she thought she was not going to be killed. It's unfortunate, but the cops definitely had to shoot. Watching that video is devastating.

She is driving an uninsured vehicle. It is law. I will not speak ill of the dead. I thought the police was right in this case as well. It seems like she had a track. I will just pray for the kids. It's so disturbing to watch.
ItsTommyBitch 12,640
I get that she had a gun and pointed it at the police with threatening statements several times, but there was a child there and they fired first. She returned, and then they shot to kill. "Police were unsure if the child was shot by Gaines or the police officers" sounds like total bullshit to avoid saying "We accidentally shot the kid, but its okay! Hes alive!" It seems like the kid was towards the back of her and she had a shotgun, is it possible that she could've even hit him? From what we know she shot second, only once* and towards the police general direction. Just pointing out what I believe is a discrepancy in the reporting I don't think the mother was well, (look up the lead poisoning thing with both her and Freddie Gray) and she was definitely wrong to point a gun at the cops with a child in the room. At the end of it all though, even if the police were legally justified in shooting her, I believe the police could have done plenty more to prevent it. Imagine if they had killed the kid X_X they sure acted like harming the kid was a negligible risk compared to taking in this woman On 8/2/2016 at 5:09 PM, MJHolland said: inb4 members/BLM start crying about police brutality... Let me avoid the WPs and just tell you one more time that "crying" about police brutality is appropriate in general. Just because you don't get it means you have the right to belittle people's deaths and act justified in doing so *EDIT* Just saw the video YourSweet posted Im not sure if the child is reliable about the "on purpose" part, but I feel pretty confident that they at least objectively shot the child 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
Luiz 4,253
first off idk why they were in swat gear and had those kinds of weapons for a domestic violence/parking ticket warrant i mean i guess they may say that this is how warrants are served but thats overkill imo. the charges are so small that they should have come back at another time when gains was alone or maybe stake out the house and catch her when she leaves the house alone and pull her over. this chick is a psycho that is willing to put her chidren's lives in grave danger just to protect her own rights. its like she cares more about herself, not paying traffic tickets and "fighting the power" than the lives of her kids and that is a very unstable individual. the police should have recognized this and backed off. it's like when they are chasing a car on the road and the suspect goes into oncoming traffic, the police back off because its not worth endangering the lives of innocents. this should be the same thing since they were endangering the life of an innocent child over a small thing like traffic tickets. they should not have killed korryn and thought of the innocent child first. we hold police to a higher standard than the average crazy citizen so it is fair to lay part of the blame for this on them as well as korryn. idk if these are the same cops from the traffic stop video but in that video she literally said they would have to kill her in front of her kids i mean who the **** says that? i guess you could say that the cops showed up with the firepower they did because they knew that her husband had a registered firearm but when they saw the child and only korryn there they really should have thought better of it I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
