Yes. Voter ID works fine.

We have to use our ID and our electoral card to vote in France. Isn't that obvious to check the identities in order to prevent fraud?

I guess I'm just confused because if you're already registered you don't need to show ID. I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You only time you need an ID or birth certificate is when you register. I'm just thinking about the controversy that includes people being turned away because they don't have those things.

Here's our method:

 

You must prove your identity and address to register and vote in a federal election. Here are your ID options when you are voting in person – at an Elections Canada office, at advance polls or on election day:

1) Show one of these pieces of ID

your driver's licence
your provincial or territorial ID card
any other government card with your photo, name and current address
 

 

2) Show two pieces of ID

At least one must have your current address

Sorry, I guess I'm more confused about how certain areas in the US are targeted in regards to Voter ID and such.

It's more than that in the case of the state if North Carolina (and other states). 

In this case, the district court discovered that North Carolina systematically targeted African Americans by actively undermined their right to vote by: reducing early voting days; changing the types of ID's that are acceptable on voting sites; eliminating same day registration; eliminating out-of-precinct provisional voting; and eliminating preregistration for 16 & 17 year olds. All which where heavily used by AA in the state of NC.

So it's more than just "voting with an ID." OF COURSE you should have a photo ID when you go to vote- no one is saying we shouldn't. But at the same time, states need to stop actively disenfranchising minority voters.

In the US it's MOSTLY politics; I can't speak for other countries. 

There have been very FEW instances of actual voter fraud in a Presidential election. Like I mentioned in a post above, it's not just about "voter IDs" -there's a lot more that goes into it. For instance there are states that reduce the number of voting sites, reduce early voting days, eliminate preregistration, etc. and its all systematically designed to target minority voters- in this case African American voters in the state of North Carolina.

So the 4th Circuit struck down these laws, and re-instated same day registration and early voting days.

Yea I read into it. How could same day registration be pulled? That makes no sense.. Reports also found the legislators in support of this law specifically took info based upon who was more likely to be affected by this. It's pretty messed up. I guess this is what Bernie supporters feel. And it's kind of crazy of explicitly stupid this is as well.
