Ableton and FLS12. Costed an ass for them, but it's worth it.

Eventually, yes. As an upcoming producer, it'd be asinine to not pay for my equipment. Not to mention the loophole versions can make your program 5 times slower. I had paid 1.4K for a pro laptop, but not even that would be able to calm the CPU/driver errors of the cracked versions. It's also required to some, that I present them with evidence of purchased products.

I don't make it so much as edit it, but I find Audacity to be an excellent tool.

Do YOU own the 4' by 6' Perfect Illusion promo Poster? Will pay you for it. Pic: http://i.imgur.com/UWuzumk

Audacity gets a lot of crap for being free, but I guarantee every music editor has it on their desktop! (Also, I've missed seeing your lovely face when I lurk around GGD, Chica! It's always pleasant to run into you...digitally. haha)

I learned how to produce EDM and pop as part of my undergraduate degree in music technology. Since most schools and professional studios at least mix in Pro Tools, that's my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) of choice. It's what I know. haha

It's hella expensive, though, so make sure you get the student discount. Saves you a solid 600 bucks as long as you're enrolled in school.

Cubase is cool. DJWS Uses it alot (pretty sure he produced his ARTPOP tracks using Cubase)

I personally use Ableton and FL Studio and Audacity for quick filters and edits all the time
