JDi 1,495 Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Twin explosions tore through a demonstration by members of Afghanistan's mainly Shi'ite Hazara minority in Kabul on Saturday, killing at least 80 people and wounding more than 230 in a suicide attack claimed by Islamic State.Islamic State claimed responsibility on Saturday for a suicide attack in Kabul targeting members of the country's Shi'ite Muslim minority, the group's Amaq news agency reported.Two fighters from Islamic State detonated explosive belts on a large demonstration by Afghanistan's Hazara minority, a mainly Shia group estimated to comprise about 9 percent of the population. Among the deadliest since the U.S.-led campaign to oust the Taliban in 2001, the attack represents a major escalation for a group hitherto largely confined to the eastern province of Nangarhar. The Persian-speaking Hazara have long suffered discrimination and thousands were killed during the period of Taliban rule. The explicit reference to the Hazara's Shi'ite religious affiliation represents a menacing departure for Afghanistan, where the bloody sectarian rivalry between Sunni and Shi'ites typical of Iraq has been relatively rare, despite decades of war. The protesters were marching to demand that their impoverished home province be included in a new multi-million-dollar electricity line. Officials in Afghanistan's main intelligence agency, the National Directorate for Security (NDS), said the attack was planned by an individual named Abu Ali, an Islamic State militant they said was based in Achin district in Nangarhar. The problem is that they'll blame it on Muslims now. I am a Muslim, and it saddens me when I see people tweeting a lot of incorrect information about Islam. The concept of how people can be that dumb to blame Muslims on everything; for example, if you say there's one bully in a school, does it make every single person in that school a bully? Nope.
